Khalif Phillips is a name that CUSA fans will know next year.

He's probably our most FBS ready player.

He just scored his 8th touchdown this season. His 11th in the last 3.5 games.

With these lopsided wins Charlotte is going to get lots of game experience for their second team. That will help when you start playing a full slate of CUSA games.

Good point that I didn't think about.

I think the 2nd year they are in CUSA. The question this year is if they can win 8 or 9 games can they make the FCS playoffs as an independent?

don't think so, didn't ODU not get a chance at the playoffs because it was their last season as an FCS team?

RE: Charlotte vs. NC Central @5pm
2nd year is correct for potential bowl eligibility.

I do not believe Charlotte is eligible for the FCS playoff this year. There is some kind of exclusionary rule for FBS transitional schools.

No. We have 75ish scholarship players. Not eligible if you have more than the FCS limit.

normally I'd worry about eventually losing a team like Charlotte but with ECU I can't see them getting added to AAC anytime sort of like UTSA & Houston

I don't think it'll happen in the foreseeable future, but ECU doesn't preclude Charlotte from joining. I'm guessing there's not a lot of overlap in North Carolina between their fanbases.

i think ODU would have a better chance at getting into the AAC in the future

ECU has a huge presence in Eastern NC and presumably Raleigh.

I know few ECU fans in Charlotte. I see their stuff around occasionally, but I see more App State stuff here than ECU.

If ODU, UTSA and Charlotte keep building like they are and we can get either FAU or FIU to step up in FL, I think CUSA will be as strong as AAC in football. I don't know if it will be as easy to catch them in Basketball as long as they have UConn and Temple.

Certainly possible, and from a selfish standpoint I think ECU and Navy are natural rivals that can only exist if ODU is in the same conference as them, but I don't anticipate any major moves for some time. Plus C-USA, in the words of Edna Krabappel, is a perfectly cromulent conference.

Definitely possible on the football end. To be competitive in basketball, C-USA needs four programs to be 20-win regulars, by hook or by crook, with the second-tier developing programs that can surge up to the top every so often. Get things to a point where two bids are likely and a third is reasonable to expect more often than not. But that's easier said than done.
