Keep it classy Rutgers
Just saw for the first time some of the videos and photos of how Rutgers fans used the PSU scandal during their game with PSU.

just one of many examples. I have never been so disgusted by a single fanbase before.

Is it in good taste? No.

You found ONE sign and you pass judgement upon a fanbase? You are ridiculous.

It is called a Rivalry and Rutgers fans have felt Penn State has dodged them for years. There are fans of every school that make bad judgement calls such as this. I bet I could dig deep and find similar stories about any school you follow.

This isn't me defending Rutgers, they don't need defense. This is one picture. This is me telling you to stop being so dramatic.

This is a dilemma. I want to criticize the OP for posting an offensive sign and using a phony excuse for posting it, of saying he is doing to criticize Rutgers fans.

The proper thing to do is post your criticism without posting the actual picture, but if he did not post a picture, then I would not know what he was talking about.

Idk, what is more offensive to this board? The original sign or taking a picture of the offensive sign and posting it on the internet?

I clearly said in the OP that there were multiple examples of this. It wasn't a single example by any means.

Actually John, this example which has made the rounds on the web is the only one I know of regarding the whole use of the Sandusky stuff. There were a few F*** Penn State chants in our student section as well. Other than these events I saw absolutely nothing inappropriate or stupid by either side from 11:30 AM when my group started tailgating until midnight when we left. And trust me when I say I'm embarrassed by even these isolated events.

There's a video on Reddit of fans chanting sanduskys name during the game and on twitter there is another group of RU fans wearing Ped State shirts.

Not saying this is reflective of all fans at RU, but I find it disturbing considering that the OSU & UNL fanbases handled this topic with passion/support whereas RU fans went down a much different path.

The one time I heard Sandusky's name used during the six hours I was tailgating was when I PSU kid was yelling Ray Rice at Rutgers fans who were sitting there tailgating minding their own business. If you are expecting 53,000 people to all be on their best behavior for what, for Rutgers is the biggest rivalry we have ever had is asking to much. On the whole all of the older Penn State fans I encountered tailgating where very nice. The students all seemed pretty douchey, but that is true of all college student, Rutgers kids included.

No issues near my tailgate either. A few Penn State fans stopped by and we had a pretty good conversation, wishing each other well for the game before we parted ways.

That sign is ridiculous and 99% of the RU fan base finds it offensive. RU's AD actually apologized for stuff like that today. Why don't we post pictures and videos of opposing fans from every other school and make sweeping generalizations about them?

Because it would lead to ironies like making sweeping, overly broad generalizations to attack an entire fanbase based on some people making sweeping, overly broad generalizations to attack a school.

"This is not the only example I can find" among 50,000+ fans is evidently no "proof" of anything except the fact that when you gather 50,000+ humans together, there are going to be some in there who would have done everyone a favor if they had stayed home.

My experience with the PSU fans as well. The current students tailgating near us were on the douchy side but so are many of the Rutgers students. The older fans and even recent grads were all very cool and fairly friendly.

Judging the entire Rutgers community by the actions of a few uneducated, immature individuals would be like, well, judging the entire Penn State community based on the actions of a few former football coaches and their defenders. Any sizable group is gonna have its bad apples. It's about how the rest of the group reacts and deals with those people, and so far, every Rutgers person I've heard from has come out in condemnation of those particular individuals.

I invited my buddy who is a Penn State alum. I park in blue and and we walked over the the purple and yellow lots to visit other friends. There were no problems in those lots that I saw. There was a lot of good hearted banter between fans bases.

That all being said, once we were at my seats we had a problem with a group behind us. Last season I was bumped from my long time seats in sec 127 to sec 128. It's been like going from commuting via car service to taking the bus. For the most part the folks around us are okay. For those familiar with the stadium, I now sit just behind and to the left of Twizzler Guy. The group behind me are just dbs. They are all 30 somethings who all act like drunk high schoolers. There has been problems with them and other schools fans before.

That's what RU needs to address. There are simply too many fans who are adolescent in their maturity level at the big games. By that I mean that probably half of our fans have been there for ten or less years. They act the way I'd expect the average drunken teen to act, which is to say like idiots.

Truthfully, I see nothing but good to come out of this. These are the small things that build hatred and rivalries. The rivalries that are important again, the better the on field product will be and essentially the better HS football will be due to the kids wanting to play for those respective schools. Not defending this. Just putting a positive twist to it.

That sign was tasteless, it happened it's being dealth with. PSU has paid a penalty(although I think they shouldn't have been let off a year early) but let's move on already

I'm actually in Sec 129 Row 36 and have been for about 5 years. We practically sit near each other. The people behind you couldn't have been too bad as I didn't notice it from where I sit. Not to say when you're right next to them like that it isn't a total drag.

This is also true. For now though ttfp will win the recruiting battles.
