-- My goodness I have never seen anything like this...why even let UAB have a football program if your not going to give it a chance to succeed?

Can you imagine how frustrating that would be if you were a UAB fan? The Board of Trustees is controlled by Bama alums. They don't want to do anything to help UAB succeed. They'll pay their coach $2 Million, but won't approve $600,000 for UAB. That's not even at the top of C-USA.

The BoT is made up by political appointees. At Cincinnati we have a XU alum on the BoT that actually bad mouthed the school and perpetuated myths/bad impressions of the school in the media. A BoT will not change IMO until political pressure is put on the governor. A national news outlet putting the spotlight on the situation may or may not apply the pressure needed.

This Bama we are talking about: The BoT are good ole Boys, the fans are mostly non alumni redneck and they don't take kindly to outsiders telling them how to run their state.

Here's more info on Callaway:

(Even though he has been the Offensive Coordinator at UGA for the past 6 years...he never had the play calling responsibilities/duties till just a few games ago? Richt use to call all the plays for UGA's offense)

Looks like Bama's BOT selected one of their "own" to be head Coach for UAB.

UAB has so much potential but I bet it is like Louisville to KY or Memphis to TN. The rest of the state hates us just because we are the largest most urban city. For some reason, even though the largest city is the largest tax base for the state, the state see's that city as a threat and thus that city's university as a threat to the beloved state university. All the powers that be...the good ol boys...are usually alum of the state university and will do anything to keep those city slickers in their place. Now here's the real sorry part. A large segment of the largest city's population is usually from out in the state and they carry all of that foolishness about hating the city they live in and supports them. So the state hates the city and a large segment of the city hates the city and it's university as well. It's crazy.

So the long and short of this thread is that Alabama power brokers can dictate who coaches where in Alabama. They dictate who coaches at UAB and finds a coach for them in a few days yet continue with egg on their face after being spurned by every big name coach they went after. Very interesting. Sounds like Alabama is nothing more than a big fish in their own pond and a little minnow in the ocean outside of their own state. IMO they deserve what they get, and they can't get what they want yet, and won't but will gloss it over when the coach search is done. Alabama's glory years are behind them. They are the only ones who haven't come to that realistic conclusion yet.
