GT's Reggie Ball ineligible for the Gator Bowl

So, 1) GTS is probably the happiest man on these here boards because, 2) with Ball out of the lineup, Georgia Tech has a legit shot to beat West Virginia.

Bennett's career stats aren't impressive, but its pretty limited action.

This is a rare case where I'm not sure a team is hurt by their starting QB becoming ineligible. Can it get any worse?

Gunner or swagger, what kind of QB is Bennett?

LOL! What a real team player. Sounds like just the effort Muhammed and White gave UC last year during the NIT.

The Jackets also lost a three-year starting cornerback, Kenny Scott, who had 50 tackles and 2 INT's on the year. A senior, he had 5 INT's and 2 returned for TD's in his career. His career is over as well.

Kenny Scott also Ineligible

SANTA DID GET MY LETTER!!!!

WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Let freedom ring from the greasy halls of the Varsity. Let freedom ring from the prodigious Tech Tower. Let freedom ring from I-A's oldest and winningest football stadium. O God almighty let freedom ring!

Over his last two games, the GT defense held the opponent out of the endzone. We have the best WR in college football... arguably the best punter in college football... the best RB in the ACC... and a Top 15 defense nationally. However, Reggie Ball SINGLE HANDEDLY whiped all of this out, going over his last two games:

< 30% completion percentage
1 fumble, returned for a TD
5 INT
0 rushing or passing TD
Negative rushing yardage
A QB rating of something ridiculous like 22.8

I have seen both play, and I call tell you the differences:
1) Taylor Bennett has a very smooth release. It won't win any speed records, but it's poetry in motion. It's like he's throwing javalins out there. Each pass is effortless and a perfect spiral. Reggie, by contrast, lofts the ball way up in the air and, for the most part prays that gravity and wind will assist it making it at least close enough for Calvin Johnson to make an unhuman play for the catch.
2) Reggie is maybe 5'10" ... Taylor is over 6'3". Reggie has not been allowed to throw over the middle virtually at all since his sophmore year b/c he just loses linebackers WAY too easily. Taylor opens up everything between the hashes.
3) While normally Reggie is a viable threat to run the ball, since the Clemson game he has been gimpy and this threat has been literally eliminated. If anothing, GT is now more of a threat to run from the QB spot.
4) The fans now have a reason to go to Jax again. Hell, I JUST MAY GO!
5) The team now has a reason to be pumped up. The GT team smelt of mutiny.. the defense digusted with near flawless efforts wasted by Reggie, with Chan Gailey using that NFL QB mentality and refusing to put in anybody else for even one snap.

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over the last several hours WVU has gone from a 7 point favorite to a 10 point favorite.

Dumbest spread ever 01-wingedeagle

Why in the **** did it only open at WV -7?
Who in their right mind, looking at Reggie's last 2 games, looking at Reggie's statistical trends as they have fallen each year, and looking at how they have fallen almost literally every game since Clemson ('cept Dook) thinks the backup could POSSIBLY be any worse??? Taylor did better against Dook than Reggie did!! Taylor started against and beat a bowl eligible UCONN squad! Hell, his first pass of his career (in said game) was a TD to Calvin Johnson!

I'm surprised it was that high... WVU has won only 2 of it's last 15 or so bowl games, I believe. Hopefully we'll make it 2 in a row against GA teams, though!! 04-rock

a) Even for Reggie I'm not thrilled for anyone who has to end their career like this. Still, the guy made his own bed.

b) Bennett is by far the better passer but what he lacks is the gumption to make decisions during the game. Experience may be a part of it, lack of overall athleticism is another. I'm hoping that the main reason he's yet been unable to trump Ball for starting time is Gailey's Bobby Cox-like devotion to established players.

What it will also mean is Tech's offense will become more conventional, Choice will get more carries and the passing game will be more methodical. If Bennett is on that day you'll probably see more passes over the middle than Ball would've tried/been allowed. The pressure will also be on the receivers because the WVU D-backs won't be looking for Ball to scramble. So the race is on: Can Tech adapt their gameplan in time at such late notice? (There's what, 6 practices left?) On the flip side, will WVU choose to pressure the QB more or trust in his inexperience to reduce the need for any blitzing?

I'm still predicting a WVU win, though now I'd be less surprised to see a Tech win. Or, better rephrased, I can visualize HOW Tech could win much more clearly.

c) Spread, shmed! As Norm would say "Does this effect the price of beer? No? Well then who cares." ;-)

And win the Gator which has not been too kind to WWU; 4 losses - 0 wins. Who to Clemson, FSU, NC and Maryland - Is that right? I attended the NC one. Lets go get this one.
