RE: Introduce yourself here: Who are you? What do you do? What is your background?
Crebman comes from a character in a fictional book about the early people of earth. He was a gnarled up, blind in one eye, shaman in a Neanderthal clan that was actually pretty smart and compassionate.
I grew up in a small town on the edge of Appalachia the son of a family of educators on my mom’s side and coal miners on dad’s side. Played the big three sports in high school as well as ran track in a town where almost no one had any money – anyone that had a Cadillac was considered as rich.
Went on to college (educators on moms side) and was one of the very first college graduates on my dad’s side of the family. My first years out of college were spent teaching high school and coaching football – what a fun time. Three grown children that all played a sport in college – tell me I didn’t influence that!
Eventually went to work in the Aerospace industry (more money for a growing family) about 30 years ago and will continue that until I hit retirement age. The money has been good and allowed me to raise a family most would probably deem as upper middle class – I guess it depends on your reference point.
I’ve spent virtually all my life living in Ohio (the southern part), but will be moving south when retirement comes – I like the south, both the climate and people.
I’m fiscally conservative, but more moderate on the social issues. I don’t care what consenting adults do provided no one else is harmed and am probably more liberal on the drug stuff while realizing it does ruin lives. I hate the PC world we live in and may say things that could "trigger" the whiny crybabies and I mostly find potty humor as very funny.
Oh, and did I mention that I think Barak Obama is the worst leader that has held the office of President in my lifetime.

Born and raised in NC. Graduated from ECU in INDT. Have worked in the same facility for 31 years and worked my way up to plant manger. We manufacture hardwood plywood for the furniture and cabinet industries. Company recently was purchased by new owners and have undergone massive labor reductions and reorganizing. Basically...We are starting the company over from scratch. It has been fun.
Married 29 years with one child...recently married and on her own. Life is good. Wife and I are enjoying our time together again.

RE: Introduce yourself here: Who are you? What do you do? What is your background?
Born and raised in northern Illinois. In my 40's. Wish I could get out of this state, but family situations prevent that. Married, no kids. One cat, three dogs (one viszla, two bullies, with one of them a deaf girl). My nieces are our kids. I get to be a fun uncle, fill them with sugar, and then send them home when I'm tired. I never have to worry about boyfriends or college...
Civil engineering degree from the University of Illinois. Did consulting for a while, but have been in the public sector working on transportation issues for many years. Many years. That sounds so old.
I am a minimalist at heart. I love the outdoors and believe in conservation. I have a nine year old pickup truck, a ten year old car, and Mrs. GBF has a new to us, four year old diesel Jetta. I'm a church going dude too.
My politics are rightish-libertarian in most ways. Fiscally conservative, for sure. I am anti-abortion and not a fan of government sanctioned gay marriage, for instance. If a church or boat caption wants to marry you, go at it. But, I also believe those battles need to be first waged for hearts and minds, and not simply legislated. Most of my political approach comes from that. Help your fellow man. Don't wait for the government to do it for you.

I'm Jon, 51, Accountant living in Arizona. Born and raised in Central Illinois as a PK/TK (Dad a preacher, Mom a Teacher), started college at U of Illinois before realizing I wanted to live in the west, so I transferred and graduated from Northern Arizona U.
Been in Arizona since 1983, except for 5 years in Nashville for work.
Live with my partner Alex and our two labs. Play a lot of softball, treasurer of our local league. Have coached and played in 5 of the last 6 Gay Softball World Series. Also enjoy hiking, birding, traveling. Been to 48 states so far. Lifelong bucket list ambition is to visit every county in the US. Been to 1700+ so far. Was the first person to get to the highest point in every county in Illinois.

Jason, 42. Born in Memphis & raised in an eastern suburb. Married, 2 kids, who are 7&8. I currently live in eastern Arkansas.
I've been in ministry for over 23 years. I've served in many "traditional" and "not-so-traditional" roles. I've done everything from music, to childrens ministry, to youth, to senior adults, to associate and head pastor...and everything in between. Right now, I'm a Chaplain in a corporate setting. I also own 2 service-oriented businesses in Memphis.
Politically, I'm conservative...fiscally & socially, but I don't identify with the Republicans any more because they, overall, seem to be right-leaning democrats. I could be a libertarian, because I believe in a tiny government and states rights...but I cannot stomach the vacuum on moral issues that most libertarians espouse.
I love Memphis Tigers basketball & football & am a 3rd generation season-ticket holder, but baseball was my first love and I'm a St.Louis Cardinals fan.
Been reading the Spin Room for years, but just recently got involved in the conversation.

RE: Introduce yourself here: Who are you? What do you do? What is your background?
Steve here. Born and raised in Fort Lee, NJ, my job took me up and down the East coast then Ohio and finally landing in Puerto Rico for 4 years. From there it was off to Southern California, then to El Paso, a short stint in Vegas, and now I'm in Las Cruces, NM. I'm an expert in cable TV field and maintenance operations but I no longer do that.
My hobbies include high end stereos where listening to music is almost like being there when it was recorded. I like classical, rock, jazz, and some film scores. As a kid I played all the usual sports up until my late 20's with the exception of basketball - I played hockey which is almost the same as basketball but in hockey the players are armed. And in hockey you can hit the guy with the puck, in basketball the guy with the ball is untouchable. Playing basketball is what you do if you can't skate and are afraid of someone hitting you. My best round of golf ever was in Puerto Rico at the Dorado Del Mar hotel course the day after the seniors played there - the ESPN trucks were still in the parking lot - and I played from the same tees. I shot an 80. I don't like metal woods or putters that look like aliens.
I'm a moderate conservative, but there are only two issues that keep me out of the full blown, hard core conservative crowd; religion and abortion. I believe in self accountability, hard work, and all of the other things conservatives do. I hate unions and for the first time in my life I have to manage unionized CWA employees. It sucks. If I ran this company I would make it my mission to destroy the union. After seeing how things work inside a union shop after never having been in one before, I can tell you the union costs the company millions in lost customers, profits, unproductive time, and other outrageous crap.
And I think Obama is the worst president ever.
Questions, comments, or suggestions? You know where I am.

Smaug, from Tolkien's The Hobbit.
Loved it from when I was a wee sprat.
Born and raised in Birmingham, AL. The youngest of 6 boys. First in my family to graduate college. Worked two jobs and fed 4 people while going to school.
My father was one of the Screamin' Eagles Ike sent to walk the Little Rock Nine to school.
My hobbies revolve around a high school and college marching band. I introduce the high school band at football games. Said football team is currently undefeated and crushing people.
I don't like government at any level telling me what to do.

Welcome. You are completely correct on your view of Republicans, IMO, but be careful as a handful of the "conservative" posters will get on you for characterizing them that way.
I'm Conservative and I think the current Republican positions would be perfect for the left leaning party in a politically ideal America.
My choices at the ballot box are Bad, Worse and Wasted. I always vote Bad.

I'm LSU. Got the name, LSU04_08, from their last two title years. Been using it since 2007.
I'm 35, I have four boys (12, 9, 8, 6) all from the same woman, my ex wife since 2010.
I'm a die hard LSU and New Orleans Saints fan. Don't really care for any other sport. Love to play baseball and golf though. Been with my GF now for 2 years. Our daily routine is to get off work (we work at the same place), get home and turn the news on, start dinner, watch Wheel of Fortune, go to the gym, then either catch up on DVR series we have recorded or watch a movie, then shower and then bed. Now that its starting to cool off we'll be going to the park after work for our 4 mile walk/jog/run, then gym, then back to normal schedule.
Hard right Christian Conservative, very easy to get along with. I believe in God first, then family and friends. I'll take a bullet for any of those three things.

hi. the name's kristofer. i was born 50 or so miles south of the canadian border in minot, north dakota. we moved to cincinnati when i was four. at the time, i thought cincinnati was a fictional city and merely a tv show.
the woman and i recently celebrated our one year anniversary. this time last year, we were wrapping up our honeymoon, leaving istanbul and then stopping in on a friend in paris.
i'm writing a novel as nomad is. it can be described as don quixote goes on the road. i've composed numerous country westerns and various humorous poetry as can be found on my blog. if i could only have the patience to learn guitar
outside of enjoying recreational drugs full time, i enjoy reading. fyodor dostoevsky, oscar wilde, flannery o'conner, and hermann hesse are some of my favorite writers. i listen to indie rock, but have discovered the joy of black sabbath and iron maiden. i also collect cats and license plates. i don't care much for politics these days but my favorite mushroom trip was on my buddies' property in southeastern indiana. i made love to my then girlfriend and now wife in a tepee and then ate the mushrooms. we walked across a railroad bridge which span across a mile long gorge. the fireflies pulsed in the trees. i don't know if i can vote anymore

RE: Introduce yourself here: Who are you? What do you do? What is your background?
I'm MHB, born and raised in Michigan, the second oldest of 5 boys and 1 girl. I spent a couple of years in Texas in my youth. Now 59, I have lived in Colorado now for 34 years. Love the climate and the variety - you can go skiing in the morning and then come down and play golf in the afternoon.
Spent 25 years teaching science and math and coaching track and field and wrestling. Got out when I felt I was burning out. Enjoy many sports but not able to do some of them anymore due to a bum knee, after several surgeries. In my life I've enjoyed playing baseball, softball, basketball, football, tennis, hockey, golf (although I suck at it), skiing and riding my bike.
I am an avid wildlife videographer and spend lots of time at Rocky Mtn. National Park capturing animal moments and vistas. I grew up a musician, playing trumpet and drums. Have performed with a variety of groups, including with Polka bands in MI and even with symphonies and was the drummer in a rock band growing up in the 60s and early 70s. I was one of the band geeks that loved marching band in H.S. and spent 3 years in the University marching band at WMU. Loved those band trips.
Politically, I am a fiscal conservative, social moderate. I prefer that the government stay out of our lives when we are not violating somebody else's rights. I actually come out with mostly libertarian viewpoints whenever I take one of the spectrum surveys.

I'm Jay. I'm a 37yo dentist. My name is from a hit rap song (remake of square biz) in 1997 which is when I got my first email address. I couldn't think of a name, and that song came on MTV at the time. Bingo. I was born in Michigan but raised in Cincinnati and Atlanta. My mom (RIP) was a college professor and my dad (retired) was an engineer for GM. They divorced when I was 3 and we moved for my mom's jobs. I'm a Cincinnati basketball fan because she worked there. I like the Florida Gators because of Steve Spurrier's "doesn't give f**k" attitude. I like UCF because they are my hometown team and we have no other football near. I go to a non-denominational liberal church. I'm single with no kids. I like to watch football (college & pro), barbeque and hang out by the pool.
