Penn State Got Screwed
Penn State has been screwed by the refs in several Big Ten games. I think it's a league mandate, lol. It's the "Penn State treatment" and it has manifested itself in many ways (not just questionable calls by refs) since joining the B1G. Rutgers and Maryland fans should prepare themselves for the same.

RE: Penn State Got Screwed
It's been the belief of many PSU fans that the Big Ten has been out to screw PSU football. After tonight, I'm thinking they may have a point. A timeout called at the end of regular time when Franklin didn't call it?
Who does the hiring of the officials, anyway? Is it the conference or the NCAA?

RE: Penn State Got Screwed
Actually in watching a lot of these games this season I don't think that a fix is in. But I do think that the Big Ten refs as a whole are rather bad at their jobs.

Franklin never even motioned for a timeout and the refs all agreed he called one.

I saw that, but I've noticed that in several B10 games this season. It's like the refs are deciding when a team should take one. I think they are anticipating the call and jumping the gun.
What is surprising is how bad the officiating has been. I would have thought that a top conference would have the best refs.

It was fixed to throw Penn State off, to allow a top brand name stay in the playoff hunt and prop up the MSU-OSU game.

As an outside observer who watched the game I thought the following:
1. Franklin out coached Meyer.
2. The Penn State quarterback was too pedestrian in the pocket.
3. That Ohio State held all night long without getting called for it.
4. That Penn State played well enough to win.
5. That I've never seen such a horrible call as the unsportsmanlike that was carried over to the next overtime. In fact I never knew before that a penalty could be carried from one overtime to the next.
6. That the game looked fixed to me, especially when PSU's possession in the second overtime started with a hold to insure the difficulty of sending it to a third OT.

All I can remember was after Sparty winning the Big Ten last year all the aftershow and speeches were talking about Ohio State, and that we got screwed on a lot of calls in that game, **** this conference. Only team I hate more than Ohio State is Michigan, wish there was more of a rivalry between the 2 schools.

RE: Penn State Got Screwed
I said this on Rutgers' Rivals boards yesterday, but here goes:
I think it would reduce the potential for collusion/corruption of officials and result in better quality officials if the power conferences and even the independents and/or group of five conferences got together and made one officiating pool. Doesn't even have to be all of FBS to get it going. Even if say the Big Ten, Pac 12, MAC, MWC, BYU and Army got together and said we're going to use a pool of football officials with common training, so forth and so on it would be a great start.

I've had similar thoughts about a single officiating structure, but even that doesn't eliminate the possibility of corruption, but it does help to keep conference bias out of it at least.
BTW this problem is not unique to the Big 10. Just ask Kentucky about how they got jobbed at Florida in the waning minutes of regulation and then again in overtime. Then I think back to the extra point Syracuse missed in the Toledo game that was called good. It was even reviewed with an obvious miss shown on the replay, and then confirmed as a good extra point. It still stands as the most blatant example of crooked officiating in my memory. But a close second would be the fumble taken away from Iowa State in their game with Texas where the Horns were inside the ISU 10 when they were stripped and the fumble returned for an apparent ISU score. The camera's showed it clearly but to no avail. The fumble was nullified and Texas scored and won.
I remind everyone of all of this to say it is a universal problem, not just one of the Big 10. And you guys should know that after Wisconsin got jobbed by a PAC officiating crew a year ago.

Yep I remember that. I think the schools should raise hell about it.
