Holly Lamb will soon stop being a Comet and become a Bearcat.
The Amherst senior has made a verbal commitment to the University of Cincinnati to continue her education and diving careers.
“I’m very, very excited,” Lamb said. “When I visited, I loved the team and the campus. I’m happy to go there.”
Lamb made an official visit to Cincinnati in September. She met with athletic and academic advisers to see what a future as a Bearcat would hold.
“I was impressed,” she said. “They have an exploratory engineering program. I’m not sure exactly what type of engineering I want to get into, but the program looks great.”
Cincinnati won out over Ohio University and Akron, who Lamb said she made unofficial visits to.
“Cincinnati just fit,” she said. “I felt like it was right when I visited and it just stuck with me.”

Lamb made her decision on Oct. 17 and informed the Bearcats of her decision the next day. She said she will receive an athletic and academic scholarship to Cincinnati. They are going through paperwork to determine what percentage of the tuition will be covered.
“I’m just really excited,” she said. “It was something that was pretty important to me to have decided before diving starts at Amherst. The coach was very interested in me, and that really made me decide that Cincinnati is where I wanted to go.”
While the Bearcats’ coaching staff ultimately swung Lamb’s decision, she may have not have considered Cincinnati had it not been for Amherst athletic director Casey Wolf.
“He really helped a lot with this decision,” Lamb said. “He’s been there from the start, leading me in the right direction. He really took an interest and helped prepare me for the visits. I wasn’t sure if I could compete in Division I, but he made me believe that I could.”
With college diving offering 1-, 3- and 5-meter diving, Lamb said she has some work to do.
“I’m definitely stronger on the 1-meter,” she said. “I’m hoping I can step in right away and contribute on that one. I’m going to need to work on the 3- and 5-meter, but I think I’ll be able to make the transition.”
While Cincinnati is not too far off for Lamb, she is not looking past her final season as a Comet.
“I’m excited for this year,” she said. “After making it to state last year, I want to get there again.”
Lamb placed 18th at the OHSAA D-I state diving competition in February with a score of 290.20 through eight dives.
“That’s one of my goals this year,” she said. “I want to do at least as good as last year, if not better. I’m also hoping I can win the SWC for the second year in a row.
“I’m just really excited right now. I have one more year with my Amherst team, then I get to go on to college diving. I think I’m ready for it.”
