USM can't throw like WKU. Big Red's pass game might open up the run a little.

Kind of a misleading stat....
when USM loss about 50 yards on sacks and going by the play by play I'm assuming bad snaps..bad pitch or something. Running plays don't normally lose 18 & 13 yards unless something unusual causes it ...other than just the defense.
BTW isn't USM one o the worse running team in college football? Not trying to take away from the effort just pointing out a few reasons that lead to the numbers.
While I've argued all season Western had a poor effort in running the ball we do have a back with 716 yards and a 4.7 avg. I believe both of those are better than Dixon's numbers.
I don't know if Western can run on the Tech defense or not but if you try to keep 7/8 in the box you better hope the outside guys don't miss any tackles.

Not to get in the middle of this, but go watch the UTSA and UNT games. We played the run pretty well in those games too.

USM lost 64 yards on Sacks/Snaps, if you look at just their 3 RB's they only had a net of 30 yards
Dixon has 681 yards rushing and 208 receiving, plus the fact we've faced tougher D's than WKU has all year and they all scheme to stop Dixon.

Look I truly expect to see Western's defense to bounce off Dixon or get carried 5 yards after contact...
not because of Dixon (nothing against his abilities ..I haven't seen him enough to form a opinion on that) but because...UAB and FAU did.
Don't know what has changed but the last 4 games Western has hit high instead of taking out the legs and went for the ball. That's lead to a lot of extra yards after contact. It will b e a total shock for me to see us stick tackles at this point.
So my biggest concern is your QB having a good throwing day. There will be open looks down field. Depending on what the Tech QB does on Saturday with those open looks will in my opinion dictate the outcome.

Tech beat WKU, 7-6. This game in 1940 was the last time WKU played a football game in Ruston.

This will be the 2nd road game in a row that I miss and only the 2nd total going on 4 seasons. My wife is still not up to a 10 hour drive muchless sitting on bleacher for 4 hours ....
Western travels fairly well to Fla, NY, Navy, New Orleans, USA(S. Alabama) and Atlanta...large destination cities and any place close to a beach. When I say well, nothing special....600 range.
If this game is anything like when we played at ULM...
my guess is 100-200 tops. Really wish I could make it but unless my son can find someone to replace him at work on Saturday and Sunday I won't be there. But I will swap this out for a basketball game @Minnesota on the 18th

I agree I just don't see the Toppers scoring less than 30, heck we scored 38 against FAU in 23 minutes and 42 against ODU in one half. The only way would be a bunch of mistakes in the red zone which has not happened yet.
Now stopping Tech is not going to happen unless they make mistakes. I expect a game in the 40's or higher. Typical WKU game coming down to the end and who can make the plays in crunch time.

That depends on your D Line. Our O Line is questionable. If they are not great at getting to Sokol he will have a field day. He does have a great arm (see the UTEP game). And if our O Line can open holes in your D Line then Dixon will have a field day as well. If you can win at the line of scrimmage (see USM, UTSA and NSU games), you have a great chance of beating us.
Our D can be pretty salty. Diaz does an excellent job of preparing for all of the offenses he meets, and we have the speed to play with anyone on Defense. I'm interested to see what he can dial up against you guys.
Bottom line, you will either have to exhaust our defense or win the line of scrimmage game to beat us. Our goal I think will be able to grind your defense to keep your offense off the field, and I will say, Holtz can really coach that.
Here's to a fun and injury free game.

Our defense just got considerably worse tomorrow, our projected 3rd-5th rd NFL DRaft pick at Corner Cam Thomas is unable to play tomorrow due to tweaked hamstring..Tweeted out this a little bit ago..Huge blow for our already suspect defense...

Our overall speed on D is pretty good this year but I am worried about WKU's QB he looked really good when I watched them against BGSU.
