Who will replace UAB?
I'm sad for uab and wish they could be saved in football. We can talk about that in the other threads though

The question is who will be their replacement if this sticks?

I'm guessing it is a western division team from the sun belt.

South Alabama

Louisiana Lafayette

Texas state

Arkansas state

First is the obvious choice but I really want Lafayette

Can't we just stay at 13. We already have enough mouths to feed.

Take a run at Ohio or UMASS. I know that screws with the East/West divisions, but that can be overcome.

I'd throw JMU into the mix. Would be great for ODU/Marshall/Charlotte. Not sure who would slide over though.

Do north / south divisions.

Charlotte, ODU, Marshall, MT, WKU, La Tech, and, JMU/UMASS/Ohio in the north.

In the South you have the Florida schools, USM, and the Texas schools.

Create some permanent cross-over games for rivalry purposes (i.e. USM & La Tech) and try to give the schools that really want it, a Florida trip every year.

RE: Who will replace UAB?
If CUSA follows the recent realignment logic, then GA State has got to be the consideration because, despite currently weak football, they give recruiting and some exposure access to the Atlanta, GA market. Say what you will, but how many Top 10 markets come along for availability to a conference like CUSA? Better a year too early than a year too late.

GA State is decent in basketball and has some tradition in that area, and their baseball has been decent as well. The world's busiest airport makes it a snap road trip for all the conference teams, some of whom might have changed planes in Atlanta previously on their way to Birmingham for UAB.

Sorry for UAB, it really sucks, but I just don;t see how an La-LA or an A State compares.

GA Southern is better on the football field, but tiny market and hard to travel to.

I agree that East/West would no longer really fit because of MT/WKU being around the middle. I also agree that North/South makes more sense, but I think there's probably a better way to handle it. Maybe scrap divisions and have permanent travel partners with random games through the conference, then for the championship game pick the two best teams.

2. Save UAB football

3. Save UAB football

99. Keep UAB in all other sports

100. Do not replace UAB. Stay at 13 football members.

Divisions are required for a football conference championship game.

I just can't justify James Madison with odu already in cusa. I mean if you are repeating another state Lafayette is just way better

They fit in the west. Great fanbase. Very good mid major fir football baseball and even basketball.

If they repeat a state it has to be Lafayette

And if you add a new state it has to be Arkansas st or south Alabama

To me those are the 3 choices if it is only 1 spot. Assumes we don't go to 16 or get poached by mwc or AAC

I'm not too familiar with ULL personally, but grabbing markets isn't about having state coverage, it's about individual market coverage. Not a ton of overlap with ODU/JMU markets.

Then there's all of the other reasons conferences pick some schools over others. Travel costs, potential (one would hope), etc.

We all feel for UAB fans.

It's in another thread. No sense in denying reality. Nobody wants to replace UAB because nobody wants to see them go. But if they have to go, might as well discuss the options on the table.

yeah, because it totally matters. our craptastic commissioner is sure to seek advice from an internet discussion forum.

reality is when it happens. before that, and you're just being intentionally and avoidably disrespectful.

If CUSA was smart, then you shouldn't add anyone. There is a reason those teams weren't added in the first place. The remaining schools would make more money. If you added someone they would take the money and more then likely hurt your next TV contract.
