RE: 2015 Football Schedule
Your sarcasm is hilarious. College Presidents like being around other college Presidents of like mind and schools of like culture and academia. It's funny you mention the SEC. The last four additions have been cultural fits like a glove for the SEC. Likewise, Liberty was not added to the SBC because of the same presidential mechanism. Athletics is a way for schools to market academia. Currently GSU has little in common with most of the SEC. The schools we fit academically with are other big urban national research universities. We are not a state flagship university so that really narrows it down to two conferences, CUSA and the AAC. The hiring of Charlie Cobb and the pursuit of the $300M Turner Field project tells me someone in our admin agrees.

Pan, rather than answer my question you again bash LU. Again, where is your team going after you depart the SBC. You boasted they would be leaving. Where are you going? Don't avoid the question.

Where again did I bash Liberty!?!?! And you actually quoted the post where I say CUSA or AAC are the logical next steps for us and why.

I do think your school will be better next year and, with the Atlanta market, if you can carve out a presence, you will have a nice run in the SBC. With all the offerings in Atlanta and GState trying to get attention, it will need to win to gather interest. A win against a FCS team like LU, will at this time, be a building block for your team. Not an expected win. 1-11, no matter how close you were in those games that you lost, and for what reasons you lost, is still 1-11. For years LU lost close games and could not get over the hump. Finally, LU got over the hump this year and expectations and interest is the highest it's ever been.

I'm happy if your teams gets a C-USA or AAC invite. I believe you will have to become a credible program for that to be the discussion. If the Atlanta market is enough to provide you an invite, without being a winning program, then the move up in conference competition will only push back the development GState needs to achieve. If you do get a C-USA or AAC invite it will only give a better opportunity for LU. It's a win-win for both schools.

Not for nothing but next year is year three for our HC. If he does not win hour and his staff are gone. An FCS win will not cut it. Not when we should have had at least five wins this year. We have to win in football. MBB is already there. Just have to get football to the same level. For what it's worth we have a President and AD on the same page both with big designs in mind. That is the most important thing.

There is a tremendous upside to your school. A presence in the Atlanta metro area would be coveted by any FBS conference. As LU had a challenge for several years being a non-winning program, it was not until this year with the win at Coastal and then at JMU, and a respectful, close lose at Nova, could be program be taken seriously. Momentum is now on their side.

Your school has a similar perception. With the success of GS, that looms large over your program. You must achieve the similar success that LU did this year. If you receive some of the U-AB players who are being mentioned it should help your program.

A banker friend and ApState alum and supporter went to your game and the LU game. He is an avid ApState fan. Last week we discussed LU playing GaState and he convincingly said that LU should win next year. LU had a very strong team this year and it is expected to be even better next year with most all skill players returning in 2015.

You must simply start winning and win some games against some quality opponents at home, and on the road to have the perception change. Then you will gain the respect of others. I am not familiar enough with the program to speak specifically what areas that need immediate attention. At 1-11, that usually means most all key points are weak. LU was in a similar situation when the head coach was Ken Karcher about 7 years. His last season was terrible and the team may have only won a couple of games. I don't remember the exact number, but they were a very bad team.

If you can turn it around that quickly to beat LU, who can play competitively with a equal chance to win, with most mid major .500 or less teams, that would be impressive. Time will tell, specifically Oct. 3 in Atlanta.

I'd actually like to thank Panama for coming over and posting mostly positive banter. Good to have you. I do think it will be a tougher game than many LU fans think especially being at the end of a tough streak of games and on the road. I do think that LU will be battle tested at that point and should win a close game if healthy. I mean gsu almost lost to Abaline Christian this year. And then they lost to everyone else.

I second your kind words to Panama. It's always good to have civil dialogue. He did state in an earlier post that he did expect LU to get an invite. I don't remember he making that recommendation in the past. I expect we'll have lots more banter with Panama as Oct. 3 nears.
