Well, that's really not too bad. Averaging 5800 shows some decent fan interest.

RE: ACC Hoops Championship: More NYC in Future
It will be interesting to see how attendance runs when the tourney moves to New York especially if Wake Forest, Clemson or Florida State make the finals. Or would an army of Dook fans make the trip to New York if the devils were there? Would UVa fans make the trip?
Last year at least 80-85% of the fans in the Greensboro Coliseum supported either UVa or Dook. More than half of those folks weren't in the coliseum the day before. This exchange of fans has always led to intense and lively finals in Greensboro, as the losers have yielded their tickets to their friends and neighbors who happened to support other teams. Whether or not this will happen in New York remains to be seen.

They also averaged "52,000" for football games this year...
They're at about 4,800 so far this year in basketball.

Greensboro more than likely stays in the rotation but the relative lack of activity near the coliseum does pose problems when Charlotte offers a more dense area of activity & mass transit options.

Once you get south of NC...none of the ACC teams really care about basketball.
Miami says "hi".
Y'all realize that the 'Canes are transforming into a basketball school right before our very eyes, right?
We'll see...it seems bandwagon like...and they play in a small arena.

I realize Louisville will never be considered even thou we have the Yum arena and a brand name in basketball. I would consider going if it was held in Atlanta. Lots to do there when not watching basketball.

Yeah, we should move the football title game to Yankee Stadium.

RE: ACC Hoops Championship: More NYC in Future
I'm an NC State fan and I hate the ACCT in Atlanta.
One of the reasons the ACCT was popular in NC was the success of the NC teams and the central location. As the tourney progressed it relatively easy and inexpensive for fans to get to and purchase tickets for later rounds. For the price of a tank of gas, fans of the original 8 schools could get to the tourney in Atlanta, North Carolina or DC. A plane ticket from Raleigh to NYC with one day notice costs $500+. NYC has a lot of hotels but finding a room during tournament week with no notice is risky. The ACC needs to address how to get fans to the site on short notice for a reasonable cost.
They also need to address ticket distribution. If the arena holds 20,000, each school would get 1200 tickets (15 schools plus some for staff, press, etc.). Instead of selling fans 1 ticket for all of the games they should sell "session" tickets. They would have 8x as many tickets available. Early rounds could be more affordable, later rounds more expensive. It could generate more revenue for the ACC. The big benefit is the building would look fuller.

Why does a Conference Tournament have to be held at the end of the year? Why can't the old BE members play in NY during Christmas? Make them conference games but string them together in NY for the Holidays.

Might be cool to do it once. Could have these games:
Syracuse vs. St. John's
Pittsburgh vs. Villanova
B.C. vs. Providence
toss in Va Tech vs. Seton Hall if you need a 4th...

I figured going back roughly my lifetime was a decent enough sample size, so over the last 35 seasons those three schools have made this number of ACC tournament final appearances.
Wake- 2 ('95, '96)
Clemson- 1 ('08)
FSU- 2 ('09, '12)
While acknowledging that FSU didn't join the league until 1991, those schools accounted for only 5 of the last 70 title game appearances, or 7%.
I'd also say I expect that number to only drop if there was any movement with top 10 historical powers Louisville and Syracuse joining the league.

And that would only matter if there wasn't a major school on the other side of the bracket. A Clemson v. Syracuse NYC ACCT final would be a very orange crowd... well, very Syracuse Orange that is. But, it would still be a packed house.

? Really,
NC State, UNC, and GT fans like the tourney in Atlanta, and when you are in Atlanta in March, the weather is good. Atlanta is the best location outside NYC where you can be free from a car and still enjoy things. In G'Boro, Charlotte, and Florida, you are hauling around your car. I don't like the spacing between hotels and the metro in DC, but MARTA is well laid out to hit downtown, midtown, buckhead, and the airport.
Atlanta should stay in the rotation & while Florida & Greensboro are car dependent, Charlotte is not. At least a 1,000 hotel rooms are currently under construction downtown not to mention the light rail extension that will be online come 2017.

I suppose if you don't want a shot at winning the ACC Championship you could skip the tournament.
The regular season is played for seeding only. The championship is won at the tournament.

This
Fan bases dumping the next day's tickets after an upset is part of what makes the tournament the tournament.

Agreed...but Greensboro has the history.
But it's absolute garbage as a city.
Yup. The only reason most people ever go to Greensboro is because they are forced to pass it on the interstate. Total dump of a town.

Greensboro is not all that bad. I have been there quite a few times visiting friends that are Upstate NY transplants. Its a pretty sleepy little town but I wouldnt call the city a dump.

At the time Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame entered the ACC Coach K was talking about the ACC having some sort of tournament in NYC in November or December. However, nobody else seemed interested.
Too many ACC schools just want to win 20 games a year. If a basketball team wins 20 games most years, pulls off the occasional upset of a highly ranked team and makes it to the NCAA tournament some years, the head coach keeps his job and so does the AD. Most schools want as easy a schedule as possible in November and December because they have only limited ambitions.

Whats their attendance? That's a legit question because I don't know. But if Miami fans truly care about basketball it will show in their attendance.
Two seasons ago, the Miami men's basketball team seemingly came out of nowhere to take the ACC — and nation — by storm.
The Hurricanes rose to No. 2 in the polls and reached the Sweet 16 … and then their entire veteran-laden group graduated.
The lesson? Don't bet against what Larranaga is building in Coral Gables.
