Looks like he was forced out as part of the overhaul of the department by Julie Herrman.

The rivals board has speculated that he has been a leak to the media and that alone would be grounds for dismissal. Seems obvious that they were not on the same page, though. It's interesting that Politi seemed to have no issue connecting a former colleague of his (Lucci) to "throwing Baum overboard". Another indicator of the sour relationship between Rutgers and the Star Ledger.

I definitely don't like the idea that he was forced out. By all accounts a class act and good at what he does.
