To me the big issue and the reason you don't see that many minority actors begins with casting... not enough big roles are given to the many amazing minority actors out there. You can make a good case for every actor nominated this year...it's no shot at them, but you end up with few minority nominees because there aren't that many key roles cast to minority actors. The Wire was absolutely loaded with spectacular performances...hell two of those guys really could have been nominated this year (Jordan for Creed and Elba for Beasts of No Nation) and gave a great showcase for a ton of minority actors (and nonminority actors who also did some great work on the show).

I'm retracting my statement because I'd really like this thread to stay on track if at all possible. We can have another race debate in the politics forum.

RE: Netflix Suggestions
Here's your 2016 Netflix series schedule
Gary Levin, USA TODAY 7:43 p.m. EST January 17, 2016

PASADENA, Calif.—Netflix, continuing to ramp up its original-series production, announced a slew of release dates for new and returning series at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour Sunday, and said Marvel's Jessica Jones, the second of at least five planned comics-based series, will return for a second season.

Here's the upcoming lineup:

Love (Feb. 11, 3:01 a.m. ET/12:01 PT), an "unflinching" relationship comedy starring Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs (Community), produced by Judd Apatow.
Fuller House, the sequel to the 1990s sitcom, debuts Feb. 26.
House of Cards, Kevin Spacey's political drama, returns for a fourth season March 4.
Flaked (March 11), an eight-episode comedy starring Will Arnett (Arrested Development) as Chip, a "celebrated long-time resident" of Venice, Calif., a beach community near Los Angeles, where he "falls for the object of his best friend's fascination" and does ""his honest best to stay one step ahead of his own lies."
The Ranch (April 1), a multi-camera comedy reuniting That '70s Show's Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson. Kutcher stars as a failed semipro football player who returns home to a family ranch in Colorado, where his brother (Masterson), dad (Sam Elliott) and mom (Debra Winger). live.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (April 15), the second season of an NBC-produced comedy about a woman (Ellie Kemper) who escapes from a cult after 15 years and starts a new life in New York. Tituss Burgess and Jane Krakowski co-star in the series, co-produced by Tina Fey.
Marseilles (May 5), a French series starring Gerard Depardieu as a mayor enmeshed in a power struggle.
Grace and Frankie (May 6), the second season of the comedy starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as women whose husbands leave them to start their own gay relationship. The series, from Friends co-creator Marta Kauffmann, also stars Sam Waterston and Martin Sheen.
Orange is the New Black (June 17), the fourth season following the female inmates of Litchfield prison.
Stranger Things (July 15), an eight-episode series about a boy who vanishes, in a mystery that involves "top-secret experiments, supernatural forces and one very strange little girl." Winona Ryder is among its stars.
The Get Down (Aug. 12), Baz Luhrmann's musical drama set in 1970s New York City. Jimmy Smits, Giancarlo Esposito and Jaden Smith are in the cast. But only the first six episodes will be released on that date.

That one's on my list thanks lush.

I just watched 11.22.63 on Hulu. Had real high hopes because of Stephen King and JJ Abrams but it was not very good. The writing is boring and there are really no twists at all. James Franco is not a very good actor.

I watched the preview for Mr. Robot season 2 and can't wait for that to start.

I never saw nurse Jackie but I am enjoying it on Netflix now.

For those into history and war films I would recommend Apocalypse: The Second World War. It is a six-part French documentary about the Second World War.

The documentary is composed exclusively of actual footage of the war as filmed by war correspondents, soldiers, resistance fighters and private citizens. The series is shown in color, even though the original material was in black and white. Though it is a French documentary it is narrated in English.

Have you watched the History Channel's mini series, WWII in HD? I really liked watching those.

I have but have only caught a few random episodes. I really enjoyed what I've seen.

RE: Netflix Suggestions
Just finished the first season of Narcos. Great stuff.

Thanks to ROKU I am on Amazon as well a lot. Just binge watched 3 seasons of Vikings. My Great Dane puppy's new nickname is now Ragnar.

I am secure in my masculinity enough to admit that my wife and I are working through the second season of Downton Abby. Very enjoyable. I love historic period pieces. They do an incredible job. The lady who played Professor McGonagal in Harry Potter is hysterical in her role as the Dowager Countess. They should have done a series just on her character.

Starting up The Americans.

Would like to check out The Blacklist at some point.

Still have two episodes left to go in SOA....have set it aside for months. Going to be like losing old friends....Boardwalk Empire, Breaking bad and for anyone who never watched it, check out the series that started the whole "really bad guys we love" genre. The Shield. Probably a bit dated a decade+ later, but its good stuff.

RE: Netflix Suggestions
I really loved Sons of Anarchy as a whole, but one thing Sutter needs to do in his spin off (Mayans M.C.) is have someone else handle the editing. I'm sure I'll watch it, but I'm setting my expectations low. It's going to be hard to replicate the success given the incredible cast SoA had to work with from the beginning.

The last season was really busy and inflated. Felt like it could have been a lot stronger if each episode wasn't 8 hours long. Also, felt like they painted themselves into a corner over the last couple seasons or so.

The first two seasons of SoA were incredible. The middle was still very good. The last couple seasons had their ups and downs.

IMO, the show was at it's best when the conflict was internal, not external forces. Much darker in the last season too (obviously) and the loss of several important characters really took away the show's punch.

The Shield's finale remains one of the all-time greats.

Narcos was really good. We'll see where it goes after the coming season, as the main story is obviously going to be resolved. 03-shhhh

I'm going to wait until The Americans is over to watch it.

Gong to tuck into something called Peaky Blinders this evening. Someone told me its like Boardwalk Empire (which I loved) just smarter and in the streets of 19th century England as opposed to prohibition era Atlantic City.

With Netflix and Amazon, not sure why I still pay for satellite. We have not watched anything but those two things at home in months. Hardly any sports of late, even.

Peaky Blinders has been on my list for probably a year now. Not sure why I have not started it yet.

Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO Now is my full package. $25 for internet and $30 for streaming services...way less than the $160 I was paying with TWC.

I'm interested in the answer to this as well. I dumped DirecTV a month ago and am happy with my choice but my internet connection is unreliable and need a better connection. I'm currently with CinBell so I think Time Warner is going to be my only option.
