Whenever Coach Layer is Gone... New LU BB Coach
I am expecting 2-3 more wins for the season. I don't expect Coach Layer to be fired. I also don't expect him to resign. But, when the day comes for a coaching change at Liberty, who would you like to see the Flames pursue?

I don't see the plug being pulled in the middle of the season, but I would expect him to be fired at seasons end. I want a young motivated assistant coach.

Pull the tigger now and fire coach Layer. We need a major shakeup. It would be more impactful to the players now than after the end of the season and may spurn them to player better for a new coach. It would give a new coach that extra time to assess the current players, recruit in the off season and get established with the school. It's sad since Layer is a good guy but it is the nature of the business.

The problem is not many assistants are going to leave their team in the middle of the season. It's likely a hire won't happen until the season is over.

Why would the assistants need to leave if the coach was left go mid-season? Don't they have contracts like the HC?

I don't see what is gained from firing Layer mid-season. He's a classy guy and exactly the kind of morals you want anybody to have. He runs a clean program and lives the mission of the school. Liberty would lose a lot of credibility for prospective coaches if they fired a good person mid-season.

Like I said in another thread, if Layer only has one season left on his current deal after this season then he's done. I don't even know if a tournament bid would be enough to save him like last time.

There is probably no assistant coach currently on the team that would make a good head coach so giving him time to coach for half of the season wouldn't help. And nobody who is currently coaching would leave their position mid-season to takeover as head coach for half a season. They will leave as soon as their season is over and still be able to recruit and coach in the off-season.

Go out and get a hungry assistant coach from a blue-blood basketball program that will want to do a quick turnaround even if he plans on using LU as a stepping stone to a better head coaching position.

I don't think firing Coach Layer at midseason serves any good purpose. There will be plenty of good candidates at the end of the season who will have plenty of time to do good work.
