Didn't Memphis just build the Forum for the Grizzlies? Surely they had to sign a lease that restricted movement for at least 15 years after having a new arena built. If Memphis build a new arena for a team without an iron-clad lease everyone associated with that decision should be fired.

No way the Grizzlies leave without paying a HUGE exit payment. I agree with the posts in the article, Sacramento is more likely.

BTW, the NBA sucks.

+1 if Vegas is really getting a team. Hard to overlook the Maloof's ties to Vegas. You know they would LOVE to have all of their key assets in Vegas. Plus the difference in arena issues between Memphis and Sac is huge.

And the beat goes on......The leeches that are professional franchises pray upon starry-eyed politicians. Communities that fall prey to these nomads are left holding the bag when the teams slip quietly out of town.
If the Vancouver, I mean Memphis Grizzilies leave town, Memphians will be better off and so will the UofM.

All I have to say is thank God Louisvillians are smart enough to fight this trash off every time it comes poking around. The university is community owned.

I would tend to agree, other than the fact that the City and County ponied up so much money for the new arena.

It typically takes time to build a fanbase up...and unfortunately, sports franchises these days don't seem to get that concept. They believe that their mere presence is enough and expect that everythign should fall into place. You have to give them something to cheer for...and so far, the Grizzlies are falling miserably short in that category.

It makes sense. There are probably more Grizzlies closer to Nevada than Memphis. 01-wingedeagle

We all know the birthplace of Jazz is Salt Lake City, Utah. Mormons are really well known for their mastery of the delta blues as well.

There is a huge penalty if they move. I think it's $115 Million this year. It goes down every year until the 17th year of the lease.

I don't think the Griz will be in Memphis 20 years from now, but I don't think they are leaving in the next couple of years either.

However, it won't hurt my feelings if they do leave.

I wouldn't be shocked if the griz left memphis for vegas. I'm sure somebody in vegas, probably taxpayers, say hotel tax, could eat the 100M penalty to get an NBA team and than build a new arena. Yet, i the hornets or sonics make more sense. Of course, it sure would be good for UofMemphis if the NBA left town... Stern is the man so maybe he will get Memphis in the big east as a way of making it easier for the NBA to leave town.

Stern is the man and he has extensive Big East ties. He's a very active Rutgers alum. He pretty much paid for his old fraternity's 3 year old house. He might even be the keynote speaker at my graduation in May. All that being said I still don't like the NBA but it isn't his fault, he does a great job running the ship.

Word is that NBA wont come to Vegas unless the NBA is off the board. You know that's not gonna happen.
