Quick Look: 2/1/15: Conference Standings (MBB)
I enjoyed doing this a week or so ago, and found that since I posted this quick look chart I've become more interested in following daily scores for C-USA teams. So, for me, it's a win-win, and if you enjoy a quick look at conference standings, glad I could help.

As of today, here are the current MBB standings in C-USA:

TEAM ....................CONF.....OVERALL
Louisiana Tech........8-1.......17-5
Western Kentucky...8-1.......15-6
UAB......................7-2.......11-11
Old Dominion.........6-3.......17-4
UTEP.....................6-3.......14-7
Middle Tennessee....5-4.......12-10
UTSA.....................4-5.......10-10
FIU........................3-4.......10-10
North Texas............3-5....... 9-11
Rice.......................3-5...... 6-14
Charlotte................3-6...... 9-12
Marshall.................2-7...... 6-16
FAU.......................1-6...... 8-10
Southern Miss.........1-8...... 6-14

As of this writing, FAU and USM would be out of the tournament, and LaTech, Western Kentucky and UAB would be locks for first round byes with UAB and UTEP fighting for that 4th slot.

RE: Quick Look: 2/1/15: Conference Standings (MBB)
Don't think there are any locks right now.

La Tech still has four tough road games.

WKU has a bunch of tough road games.

I think UAB is sitting pretty with only two losses and the schedule that they have left. Winnable road games and the toughest teams on their schedule they play at home. UAB is really in control of their destiny. Scary how young they are!

Old Dominion has a tough road game at UTEP left on the schedule but they have home games against two of the teams ahead of them. Their margin for error is fairly small, but they are still very much in the picture.

UTEP really shot themselves in the foot with that Marshall loss. But outside of a tough road game at La Tech they have a manageable schedule with most of the tough teams at home. They're still very much in the picture for a top 4 seed. Of course they can't afford to tie some teams because they have lost or very well might lose their tiebreakers with at least two teams ahead of them.

The loss to UTSA may have knocked MTSU out of the running for a bye. They have zero margin for error now. They have a couple of very tough home games as well as a trip to UAB. Good chance that they will lose one or two of those three.

I think anyone else has too many losses and too many tough road games ahead to have any chance.

Did you mean ODU and UTEP fighting for that 4th spot?

ODU has La Tech and WKU at home and is done with their UAB/MT gauntlet which both of those teams still have. Monarchs can still win the conference but need UAB to come back to earth.

The Blazers never left...lol. They were in hiding during OOC play though.

I think we will lose at least one of the 4 remaining road games, and I think we will lose at least one of MTSU, WKU, or la tech. realistically, I think we will wind up with 5 or 6 conference losses. If ODU takes care of business, they'll be right back in the hunt.

You can put an asterisk by USM as ineligible for post season play due to recent self-imposed sanctions.

Rice has come a long way since last year - but we just got swept home and home by UNT. Was hoping we could at least get a split there. However we're probably just one win away from at least punching our ticket to "the little dance".

Or you guys have some talent and a very poor coach. Sometimes talent simply clicks despite the poor coaching.

Charlotte is a great example of this. We have 8-10 guys on the team that are a danger to score 15+ points on any given night, but they never all play well at the same time. Our guys look lost on the court most of the time and play together very poorly as a team.

We have the talent to beat anyone in the league. We have the coaching to lose to anyone in the league.

That tends to be the mark of one of two things:

A poorly-coached but highly-talented team; OR

A well-coached but poorly-talented team.

Those are the teams that tend to be rough overall but manage to beat some people they shouldn't.

I'm gonna need some one here to stop me from entering Halton Arena again this season and just put me out of my misery.

It doesn't even have to be quick and painless because it couldn't come close to the agony of being a 49er fan.

Go Niners.

UNT's team in the first half of the Tech game could win the national championship. I think they shot about 80% from the field and were beating Tech by 20. The 2nd half team is probably the one that's towards the bottom of the conference. I wouldn't call it "luck", they were just playing lights out for a little while.

problem with north texas team is that their is no type of adjustments done at halftime, like all the other good coached teams. can't believe they actually came back against rice in the second half last week. if i remember correctly, north texas has only outscored 5 of their opponents in the second half...the teams they outscored were the ikes of langston, arkansas - monticello, those types of lower division schools.

I actually read somewhere that when UNT went up by 21 points on LA Tech in the 1st half, UNT had shot 88% from the field up until that point.

It was all the refs in the UNT game 05-nono

Just joking we didn't look ready to play and they played really well - especially in the 1st half
