RE: Major budget cuts for public Louisiana universities
I don't know something seems off. The campus is beautiful and is built. They could go coed, cut a good chunk of spending, get a state waiver to get the restricted funds used for emergency. Its not a good situation but didn't seem to the point of closing. Maybe they have plans for the campus. I do think there a lots of small private school's that could close or be merged into a state system.

It amazes me that this is going under. A lot of equity is being lost. It should be merged.

The writing is on the wall - they can hold on for a few more years, and spend down the endowment, or use it more wisely by shutting down.

The world isn't that binary, though. For instance, they could merge or they could go coed.

Merge with whom? In a way, they are doing that - helping their students into another nearby college. And likely any leftover endowment money will go to other women's colleges.
Going coed - male population at colleges in shrinking already. The lure of a rural campus that only does liberal arts is limited.
Sometimes, closing is the best option. I am sure they looked at everything. Nothing is guaranteed, nor needs to last forever.
Colleges have closed in the past. They will continue to close in the future.
