RE: Recruit Updates
Good to see some of you guys have turned off the panic button. Not that I wasn't starting to worry. But sometimes we have no other choice but to trust the process. I also sometimes get those nervous feelings about when will we hear something. I may walk like an Egyptian, but I refuse to act like a millennial. LoL

RE: Recruit Updates
Anybody that lives this game knew that last year was going to be difficult and then Matt got hurt too. You don't lose that much firepower and have any chance at all with a new staff. They got better over the course of the year and began to attempt to get stops.

I really believe that this staff is good overall. They are building and balancing classes too it looks. They also have a collection of talent to fit a variety of style too. I like the size and talent of the wings which has always been a staple of our best teams. When UNCW had Ed Williams and then Bryce and Flemmings, they were good. When they had a Callahan, they were good..a guy that could step out. It's not just coaching, but building pieces. The freshman from Charlotte looks to be that type of guy and Estime can be too. Perhaps the athletic transfer can be in the mold and he's like 6'8" or so but could play 4 also.

If PG play is good, this team can make a nice jump provided that roles can be defined and guys step up at the 2 and 3. It's going to be fun seeing them progress. They still need to continue to improve defensively but I'm optimistic for the future now.

RE: Recruit Updates
The talent is there to compete at the top of the conference next year. The ultimate determining factor on whether they will or not is going to be defense. As C.B. said in his press conference after the Northeastern loss, the guys have to be better defensively than they were at any point this past season on the first day of practice next season. A lot of that is coaching. So I think we'll be able to get a good assessment of this staff next year. I think realistically we have to give them a pass on the first year.

RE: Recruit Updates
Although i'm optimistic, i'm not sure how anyone can make the statement that we have the "talent" to compete next year. We have two guys off the bench who didn't play last year( Cylla and Elmore), two transfers who can play immediately, and two freshman on the roster next year. We haven't seen any of them on the court against CAA talent. That's six players we really don't know much about, several of whom we are counting on to have an immediate impact and/or start.

At least we have the positions filled where we needed help, but i'm not ready to make any declarations about their abilities or how we'll play. We'll see.

I agree. So much weight is on the PG position at any level and we haven’t seen either guy play. The existing roster needs to improve in the off season with the exception of Cacok. I’m less certain about next year than I was last year. At least Talley was a known commodity. We haven’t seen Cylla or Elmore play anything other than meaningless minutes. Don’t know how you can say the talent is there to contend for a title. I’ll wait and see next fall.

That being said, I like the guards and wings in this class. Particularly the wing out of Charlotte. I’m assuming the Juco PG is ready to start day 1. The German big man is still a project.

Well. I don’t necessarily disagree with their thought we can contend. Mostly because I always believe in the boys as an eternal Seahawk. Additionally, whether to our benefit or detriment, several of the top teams lost a lot of talent to graduation and unexpected transfers.

I think we have a legit shot at it and finish in the 1-4 range.

RE: Recruit Updates
Signing the 2019 class in the early period with a couple impact players is going to be key for CB. To date he got a couple 2018 guys early and everyone else has been plugging holes , on paper these guys seem ok but we will see how good people are or are not when they actually play.

RE: Recruit Updates
An argument can be made for winning the CAA with this roster so it's possible but things have to come together for that to happen. BTW, I'm not making that argument, only that they will be better. Last year, forget about it. In the end, you have to see what you have relative to the competition so the PG position will be key for UNCW and having a guy or 2 step up at the 3 and 4 which is very possible, if not likely. NE looks to be good and C of C will be solid. Hofstra is tough as are the Tribe. There's no reason to think that UNCW can't be in the mix next year as they were competitive last year with a limited roster. Hawks have a lot of options unlike last year and many have now been in roles. I like the inside out offensive approach and running when prudent with a stress on rebounding and improving half court defense. This takes time to develop a different culture. There will be a lot of competition for jobs next year which is good. This is a deeper roster and the players will know if they've earned it in practice. Good teams in any sport get better when going against good players. I see a program that is building and one that will be much improved.

RE: Recruit Updates
Depending on what Justin Wright-Foreman does, Hofstra could take a huge step back if he leaves. They already lost Gustys. Towson is set to take a huge step back. Elon and Delaware are question marks. Drexel and JMU should take steps forward next year, with Northeastern, CofC, and W&M staying at the top. I see no reason why we should not finish in the Top 4.

We're pretty much set at Guard as long as no one transfers out. We're only losing bigs after next year so this is definitely the right move. Both guys seem very talented and if we could land at least one of these guys in the early signing period it would be huge. If I were a betting man, I would say they'll look for a sharpshooter as well. Quinn Richey looks to fit this role and can play the 2 or 3.

Thought it would be interesting to point out the common theme just off of first look on these guys is they all have great length. With C.B. already bringing in guys like Cylla and Sims who also have abnormal wingspans compared to their height, this seems to be a key factor in his recruiting. Length is something you can't teach, so you can't knock this strategy. Get these guys on campus and working with Ben Fleming, who I've been thoroughly impressed with and see if you can add some strength to that length. I'm glad to see the strength & conditioning program has not taken a step back since Murph left.

Also, below is a link to Leslie Nkereuwem's junior year highlights.

Some were more upset with Pat's departure than Keatts'.05-stirthepot

On a serious note, these guys are all long, as you said, and two of the three seem to be very athletic. It also seems like we're targeting guys that have a similar game to Elmore (Shedrick & Fowler), which I believe makes having Linssen on the roster all that more important. Nkereuwem plays bigger than 6'7, but will benefit from a college weight training program.

Elmore feels a little like a new recruit. I just read this again for fun:
