Of your list only ODU and GSU have true value.

BYU {Lacks Market to grow Fan Base}
Marshall {Lack of Market and Fan Base}
Army {Unable to compete and unwilling to join}

Only ODU and GSU have the potential Market to build a sizable fan base. ODU has the Norfolk, Newark and Virginia Beach metro and GSU has all of Southern Georgia to draw from. 07-coffee3

Those are the two teams I would want. Mostly based on relationship to ECU. I know some teams in this conference have had nothing to do with them so I get why they wouldn't want them for those reasons. I don't really care about most of the other arguments, we aren't getting anyone who would add a ton of value to TV contracts or whatever.

BTW, I want to know what USM fans did to bring on this curse so I can NEVER, EVER, do it. Their football and basketball went straight into the crapper.
Southern Miss will most likely never return to what they were,so inviting them is living in the past.

*IF* we need to add I think these two are the best that would actually come. BYU isn't looking to group itself with a G5 conference. Air Force turned down the Big East before most of it's membership went to the various P5 conferences. Boise has turned us down likewise. It really can't be much clearer.

Boise and SDSU were set to join before SHTF. If the networks were willing to up our contract and pay significantly more than the Mountain West, I think they would at least consider it again. You're probably right about BYU, but if the P5 door appears to be shut and you can find them some dancing partners out west, you never know. I prefer Colorado State to Air Force, but regarding Air Force... maybe they would be more receptive now that Navy is on board. A lot of folks are on the Army bandwagon, but I want no part of a football program that has had one winning season since 1996. At least Navy and Air Force offer competitive football teams.

Sure - if we offer Boise significantly more money they'd consider. But we're not now in a position to do that nor do I see that possibility on the horizon. Boise just made a boat load of money (for a G5 team) playing in the MWC. Air Force has known Navy was joining for a couple of years now. Air Force has shown no signs of wanting to join the AAC or even the old, much better, Big East. I see no reason to wait by a phone for their call. BYU simply can't afford the G5 taint while their posing as a P5 who just happens to also be an independent -- sort of a Notre Dame lite. And why would Colorado State leave the MWC for the AAC?

It's all dependent on there being more money available, which there currently isn't. My point is, right now, there is absolutely no reason to expand unless our TV partners demand it or make it lucrative to do so. If one of those things does happen, I believe the only G5 programs left that would raise our profile are out west.

USM does have value in possible carriage fees but not in and of themselves. They would have to be part of a group. That group could then help bolster their drawing power but, I digress. 07-coffee3

That's right. You can wear a Marshall sweatshirt on the streets of Portland, Oregon, and no one is going to think you're an advertisment for a department store. Marshall is a nationally recognized name.

I guess it would be nationally recognized as opposed to a brand. Hell, I don't know and it's all debatable.

Let's be honest, even what they were in the past would not be good enough to get into this conference. If you really look at what they have allegedly accomplished, it is nothing more then a middling Sun Belt team. It is nothing personal against them, it is just a fact.

I have a different take on it. I think that the conference should stay within the Eastern and Central time zones. That leaves us out of taking BYU or any MWC team.

I think that both Buffalo and Western Kentucky would be good additions, more from a marketing p.o.v..
I'm not convinced about U Mass, I dont like Marshall, OSU and Charlotte are legit possibilities, USA as mentioned what do UH & SMU think.

Don't know if it was done on purpose, but if it was... that's great scheduling for the last weekend of your conference season.

Speaking of branding, does everyone know where Temple is located?
On two consecutive fb road trips I was asked by opp $ sesosition fans where TU is located.

As a teacher, I can not assume shared knowledge. I'm always surprised how little background knowledge my students posess.

I am a teacher also. Some students couldn't find their hometown on a map. I used road maps in class the other day and it's the first time any of them had ever seen one. These are high school students.

RE: Top 5 AAC Expansion Candidates
Do not understand the charm that ODU seems to have with some people. It has a large commuter fan base, who typically cheer for UVA or Va Tech over ODU. Saying that they have the Norfolk market is an overstatement. That area is very transient with a big Navy base serving as the 1 employer in the region.

ODU football is fast becoming a place where the very good talent from the 757 area code are choosing as a last resort. This will only continue as the conference ODU plays in loses what little street cred it has.

I will give ODU credit for having good basketball in the past, but they have struggled lately and I bet many fans are wishing they had stayed in their old conference for basketball.

Careful. You might get the hopes up for the marshall fans that don't understand sarcasm.

Not sarcasm in the least. If the AAC were to expand for some reason I think Marshall would certainly be a candidate. Sorry BYU and Boise ain't coming.

Sarcasm squared.
