Liberty's most successful coach ever
While thinking about the replacement for Dale Layer I began thinking about Liberty's most successful coach. In the last 15 years of following Liberty sports my vote would go the Carey Green, the woman's basketball coach. His record at Liberty is 357-121. He's averaged 24 wins a season and won the Big South 12 times. In that time we've also had 3 or 4 players drafted to the WNBA. Who do you think is Liberty's most successful coach?

I would probably go with the track and field coach. He always has a great squad and has national champions.

Coach Tolsma by a considerable margin. But we ahve been blessed with awesome coaches in a number of sports in recent years. Now we just have to find that type of success in men's hoops.

Tolsma...not even close. While the Liberty women's basketball team has been good...very good...Tolsma has been better. The Chalenga led men's teams were a legitimate top 15 program during his years here, finishing as high as 12th at NCAA's, Liberty's highest ever team finish at NCAA's. As mentioned...the individual national champions, and Chalenga had or has an NCAA record in the 3000 indoor I believe. Maybe it's 5,000 or 10k. Either way, track for sure, Tolsma for sure, and not just for dominating the Big South...top 15 and national champions at the NCAA D1 level > women's basketball sweet 16 appearance.

Tolsma followed by Jesse Castro. Who easily gets the "most crapped on LU coach" award

I would have expected Medic to name Coach Castro #1. And the wrestling program was legit back in our DI days before we had to drop the program down to club level due to Title IX issues.

One correction above ... LU Golf finished 10th in the Nation in 2012.

The coaches that win the most are the best. Unless folks measure this by how good a guy a coach is. Layer is clearly the winner in that category 03-razz
