RE: Expansion? We talking Expansion?
All jokes aside, I think it would be cool to see Louisville and Pitt schedule Cincinnati and Marshall OOC for a four-way Ohio River rivalry every couple of years.

RE: Expansion? We talking Expansion?
I needed a good laugh, this thread did the job.
ND is NOT going all in with the ACC football.
Texas will not give up its TV deal/LHN for anything less than a monstrous increase, even then, maybe not. Texas likes having control and the Bevo 12 is really under their control (Well, OU has pull, but NO OTHER B12 SCHOOL matters in B12 decisions).
The ACC does NOT need ND.
ND and the ACC like the agreement they have.
Anyone who thinks that Texas will bring along any dwarfs out of loyalty or necesity, please, stop using recreational drugs. OU MAY come with Texas, but OU wants the SEC (who conveniently wants them, too), OU can make their own way and OU could follow Texas. The other B12 schools are only along for the ride. When (If) Texas tires of the rest of the B12 schools, the remainder of the B12 die on the vine.
Regarding ND, ND already takes what they want from NBC. ND gets the most scheduling freedom in the NCAA DI football and has no shortage of big name opponents. The ACC fits their East Coast exposure/recruiting needs/desires. Why rock that boat? Conference/TV money does not mean as much to ND as many believe.
The ACC is stable. The ACC has the largest population in its coverage area and the most growth potential. The B1G is stagnant. The PAC is isolated. The SEC is saturated. The B12 has the smallest population in its coverage area. If Texas leaves, the remaining Texas schools would have almost zero pull in the TV world. OU has options, but OSU, Iowa State, Kansas, K-State and WVU are up the proverbial creek.
As already mentioned, no elite conference with only powerhouses will be formed. There must always be teams to beat.

They didn't play independent status or at least not all of them. Besides FB I can not think what conference their teams reside in before joining The Big East, but I'm sure they were scattered about.
They were in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference (MCC) for all sports but football. The MCC included Detroit, Butler, Evansville, Xavier, etc.

ND basketball was an independent until 1995, when it joined the Big East.
Membership in the North Star Conference and the Midwestern Collegiate Conference provided a temporary home for various other sports in the past.
