The bats are starting to come alive as we've won 7 straight. It's going to come down to us and the beach chickens again.

Don't sleep on Campbell or Radford just yet.

I really enjoy competing against ODU. It seems like a very good and friendly rivalry.

LU could learn a lot and try to emulate their basketball success and tradition.

I am very indifferent towards ODU. They don't really excite me and aside from being another Virginia school, I don't really have a reason to compete against them.

It's a great road trip in early September. Beach in the morning, game in the evening, hit up some great tourist attractions the next day. I love that area, though it's a bit crowded.

ODU has a pretty nice urban campus as well. I love their dorms. Student housing from the second floor up. The ground floor is retail and community shops. It's pretty cool stuff.

RE: Baseball wins 7th straight have.
Watched my first baseball game last night (Friday) at LU. An outstanding facility. Top notch all the way around. I did a walk around the whole facility checking seating from all angles. Arriving early, I picked my first seat 3 rows back just to the side of the visitor dugout. I've always enjoyed sitting at 1st base. Great seats and unobstructed views just so the safety netting was not blocking home plate and close to the field.

Next I grabbed a rocking chair and ate my required peanuts from the visitor side concourse. Then a stroll through the concourse. Noticed one very nice feature. There are no pole or support obstructions as the backstop netting is held in place all by wires. No large support post or beams.

From behind home plate at the concourse, one could see down both lines without poles to maneuver around when action was in the outfields.

For whatever reason, the gas fireplace was not working at the concourse ends, which on a chilly night would have been a nice feature. All in all, I give it a A-. The only reason I don't give it an A+ is the concessions.

The concessions were disappointing. I'm guessing there was 1700 to 2000 people there and there were LONG lines to both concessions. One concession was had hot dogs and heavier foods, the second concession had beverages, peanuts and lite snacks. At peak, the line had to be 75+ feet and that would like take 30-45 minutes. The line moved slowly. With a sellout, it would be even more. One good thing, while one was in line one could still see the field and the action while waiting.

So an A- and here's a thought to improve the concessions. Have small satellite/kiosk stations for beverages and snacks along the concourse and convert the lite concession to full heavier foods. Those only wanting popcorn, peanuts or snacks would not be in the same line and reduce the wait. I am surprised that such an outstanding facility would design such minimal concessions. Enough about the concessions.

The field was very nice and symmetrical, 325 down the lines, 371 in the power alleys and 395 dead center. The old caboose being installed in right field is a nice touch. It would be cool if they install some lights, a railroad air horn and some make shift steam that would blare, whistle and spew steam when a home run was hit.

And the best part, it cost me $3. Three bucks, what a deal.

Do yourself a favor and attend a game before the season ends. You will love it. I did.

One other nice experience I forgot to mention. Lots of college kids (of course) and young families with their kids. I a passionate baseball fan. It's my favorite sport and I'm disappointed how MLB has succumbed to broadcasters changing all games to night, check that, late night games to accommodate the broadcasters. I know I'm dating myself, but those old enough to remember Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reese, and later Curt Gowdy, and the Saturday game of the week, well that was a highlight for a young boy and must see TV.

Youngsters are much more drawn to football and basketball with baseball being the 3rd choice. Seems like if an athletic kid cannot make it in football or basketball, then they'll choose baseball. Fewer kids choose baseball first which is sad. Kids simply don't see the best games as they do in other sports. Just my soapbox about how the baseball execs have let the media set the parameters rather than the reverse.

Lots of moms, dads and kids. That was nice.

I'n guessing the stadium was still under construction when you were on campus there for awhile, Mike. It has all of the cool atmosphere of moden Minor League Baseball with a pronounced Liberty vibe. It is leagues beyond the old experience at Worthington Field.

The new baseball stadium is an awesome place to watch a game. The stadium beats many if not most minor league parks.

I do have to agree with Newtimes, LU's concessions are horrible campus wide. The popcorn is typically dry and without taste. The nachos, dogs, etc. are typically cold. It's like Marriott from the 90's when I was a student is doing all of the concessions.

LU can build an awesome facility, develop awesome video intros, and have a great family fun atmosphere. But they can't pop popcorn.

No baseball this weekend..... Boo!
But the next 5 games are crucial and must wins. 2 against Richmond- in state rivals. 3 against Coastal- enough said. After a few more flop and choke games we ended most recently with a good win against a historically good ECU team. Hopefully that rolls over into 5 game winning streak.
