Don't forget UTEP and Texas Tech. That would be a great conference. Play each other twice in football home and away and six non-conference games. Baseball do the same gives you plenty of non-conference weekend series. Basketball can play each other four times who would not want that. Winner of the conference gets a cactus and gallon jug of dirt!

The conference that needed to happen was back in 2004

The 2003 ACC(MD, UVA, Tobacco 4, Clem, GT, FSU)

At that time, Temple drops to the MAC and with UMass as they upgrade(sooner) they move all sports as together basketball helps each other.

Lville, Cincy and crew never upgrade to the Big East. They stay in CUSA. Less mouths to feed at the time then.

The Big East splits and probally looks close to what they are today anyway. Maybe Dayton instead of a Creighton or DePaul. Who knows.

The ACC becomes the first large power conference and can poach away at PSU with a heck of a geographical argument to make. JoePa is still alive and sees his dream being made else where. Chances they leave instead of the B1G getting Nebraska for 12 vs 10? I think today looks a whole lot different possibly. Who is the 20th team? Maybe Cincy or Lville. Cincy might have made more sense back then based on a map and academics but who knows.

This could have been a very interesting conference long term. Politics and greed got the ACC where it is today. Could have been a whole lot better if they just accepted everyone that mattered instead of defining negatives in everyone. The ACC screamed about academics with WVu then they added Lville. They screamed about getting football schools then they added Cuse and Pitt who live on the past like SanFranU lives off its basketball past. What a joke. Could have been a truly special conference.

The rivalries and border wars would have been something special. Huge TV markets, great cities, fabulous land grants and a lot of colonial history all combined into one.

Prestigious- Miami, GT, Duke, Wake, Cuse, BC, Pitt, ND, VPI, #20(let's say Cincy)

Everyone touches NYC, Tobacco Road, FL and its a costal monster.

Just imagine conference football ship games with teams like FSU, WVU, Clem, PSU in the Public and VT, Miami, Gt, ND being most likely odds wise yearly in the Presitgious. Imagine these 20 getting to a top 16 every year who get invited to MSG for March. Absolute monster that they fuc ked up.mthis could have been the bread winner hands down.

The Big East should have gone with 12 from the start. Had it done so, FSU and Clemson would have joined at that time, killing the ACC in football and relegating them to mid-major status, and the Big East Championship game would have just as much history as the SEC's.

But the Big East thought small, and small they remain. Far smaller than they ever were before, and it's all thanks to the stupidity of the eastern basketball interests. The Big East was the better conference in both football and basketball. But Big East football no longer exists. The ACC is still incompetent on the field, outside of FSU. But the media doesn't recognize that, since all they can see is the top school in each conference, unless they're talking about the SEC. We can thank eSPIN for that.
