Isn't all that also true of Navy, who will now be playing football in the AAC?

Navy didn't join out of necessity. They could have remained independent. Army obviously feels that they can't compete in a conference right now, so they aren't going to join one. They have the luxery of staying independent because they can easily schedule schools they feel they can compete against. At least that's the way I see it. When I look at their future football schedules, I see a lot of soft competition.

Navy spokesman said when deciding to join the AAC that it was getting harder and harder to put together a good schedule and that joining a conference would take care of that. He also said he does not know why Army wants independent football since scheduling is going to only get harder. Army obviously thinks differently.

They must not be having problems with finding opponents to schedule.

Well, frankly, I don't think Army wants a good schedule. They want as weak a schedule as they can get in order to compete for a bowl slot. I don't think going winless does anything for recruiting. Army was terrible in CUSA and left because they were not competitive. Nothing seems to have changed---they are little better than they were. I know for a fact the AAC tried very hard to get them to join the AAC and they said no---mainly due to their terrible run in CUSA. I just don't think they would be competitive in any conference other than maybe the MAC. The bottom of the MAC is pretty bad. But for Army, its easier to cobble together a schedule of bottom dwellers than have t take on the top and bottom of any given conference (including the MAC).

You must remember that Army competed in the original CUSA which was a different lineup than Coda.
