TCU is in at 3. So who will be No. 1? Will it be Oregon or Ohio State

Dawg, since you are the only one who has weighed in, I will go with Oregon just for the sake of discussion. Otherwise, I really don't care.

Using my connection with the spirit world, I see the letter "O".

And the "O" your spirit world revealed stands for ... Orlando. It's almost 9:00am, and the Sentinel has yet to post the number two team.

OK, the Orlando Sentinel poll is officially over (at least for this exercise). Oregon is in at No. 2, meaning the Sentinel's No. 1 team is ... drum roll ... drum roll ... drum roll ... Ohio State!

Here are your final standings, with the SEC leading all conferences in average rating and C-USA the King of the G5!

My work is done.

SEC 37.36
PAC-12 44.33
B1G 52.36
IND 52.67
BIG-12 56.60
ACC 60.36

C-USA 77.92
MWC 78.33
MAC 78.46
AAC 82.67
SBC 84.91

As Of: 08/26/15

Includes Ohio State at 1

Orlando Sentinel 2015 football countdown
(08-24-2015 08:47 AM)ODU AGGIE Wrote:  The SEC is finished -- Alabama is in at No. 4, and the teams remaining are TCU, Oregon and Ohio State.

Anyone care to guess who the Sentinel likes for No. 1?

Hey, we're almost there. Don't totally give up yet! Think about it. A prior C-USA conference mate and conference champion could be a preseason pick for national champion and will definitley be in the top three. How many other G5 conferences can make that claim? GO HORNED FROGS!

EDIT: Hey -- I'm tryin' here!

The answer is at least 3 (G5 conferences that can make that claim). On their journey back to the P5, TCU held membership in CUSA, MWC, and Big East(which became AAC). Unlike Boise and SDSU who reversed ground before officially joining, TCU actually joined (and paid an exit fee to leave) even though they never played a game in the BE.

OATM -- With apologies to Tom Brady, that was deflating. However, we can throw out the BE, because TCU fails to meet the full criteria there, "conference mate and conference champion."

So the gap between the sec and the big 10 is approximately equal to the gap between the ACC and CUSA? Interesting.

Seeing as how the College Sports Editor of the Orlando Sentinel is from El Paso, perhaps her bias creeped into the rankings a bit? Then again, it's only halftime.

46 UTEP C-USA 7-5 UTEP's strong run game and potent defense could help the Miners earn back-to-back bowl bids and compete for a league title.

100 New Mexico State Sun Belt 2-10 New Mexico State returns a slew of starters, but the Aggies lack the size needed up front to post a winning record.
Code:
Halftime
1     2     3     4     T
UTEP(0-2, 0-2 away)
9     0             9
New Mexico State(0-2, 0-1 home)
13     3             16
ESPN3

I don't follow everyone---but just looking at a couple teams I do follow, I notice they have Houston ranked 89 (a 8-5 2014 team returning most all their starters)---just a slot better than UMass. But they have Rice, who was also 8-5 in 2014, ranked at 56 (after losing 13 starters off a solid 2014 team) and ahead of Texas. I mean, he is obviously entitled to his opinion, but it seems almost random in some ways.

Pulling back the curtain....perhaps explaining the mystery and methodology to this year's Orlando Sentinel 2015 College Football Countdown, ya'll: (from the byline on the Rice article)

Iliana Limón Romero, College Sports Editor, Orlando Sentinel

Iliana Limón Romero is the college sports editor of the Orlando Sentinel and Sun Sentinel.

She also supervises Orlando's soccer coverage.

The El Paso native previously worked at The Albuquerque Tribune.

Limón Romero joined the Sentinel in 2007 and covered UCF athletics for four years. She is the proud co-owner of two dachshunds, Atticus and Scout.

Quote:Metz TD pass in OT lifts UTEP past New Mexico State, 50-47

Cedrick Lang caught his only pass of the game, a 6-yard strike from Ryan Metz in overtime, to lift UTEP to a 50-47 win over New Mexico State on Saturday night.

Code:
Final/OT
Team    1    2    3    4    OT    T
UTEP    9    0    7    28    6    50
NMSU    13    3    14    14    3    47

Way to pull that one out, UTEP.

However a first place G-5 final ranking is still looking likely for the good guys. For the Mountain West to finish ahead of C-USA, Boise would have to come in at 16 or better, and for the MAC to finish ahead of C-USA, Northern Illinois will have to come in at 21 or better. I'm thinking neither one of those things are going to happen.

Yea!

Here are the updated projected/final conference rankings.

This guy's rankings are a joke. If you really think WKU should be rated that high, then you are in fact high! I'm an NIU fan and even I think that NIU should not be rated ahead of some of the teams that are further down the list.

This was fun to read, yes you are right they were wrong, finished 24th!
