Good question

Good - B/c ESPN's trimming may cause other networks do the apposite and offer the AAC a more respectable TV deal $$$.

Bad - B/c ESPN's trimming may force others (networks) do the same (Trimming).

Hope that makes a LITTLE sense now. 07-coffee3

If that's the "good" part lord help us --

Because ESPN/AAC signed a short-term contract (especially compared to P5 conferences...let alone the MAC which just signed a long-term deal through 2027 with ESPN), one of the main advantages of ESPN offering to sweeten the deal say 1-2 years prior to contract ending in 2019-2020 is so that NBC Sports or FOX Sports can made bids for AAC rights.

That would be the advantage for ESPN to offer up a new deal well before this current contract expires...but of course ESPN would want long-term gains (i.e. add 8-10 years plus onto the new deal).

No clue what the AAC will do but currently, there are a lot of advantages of sticking with mostly ESPN for Football/Basketball....as compared to the other fairly new TV Sports Networks. (larger audiences/better tv ratings/more exposure, etc...) but that might change over the next 3-4 years if those sports networks continue to grow and gain valuable programming. (Not much will be up for bid till then though...which might make AAC future TV rights a heck more valuable to NBC Sports/Fox Sports).

My hope is in 2017 they offer us an extension through 2025/26. Thats when the Big 12 and the payoff are up for renewal. That extends what we had by 6 more years and gives a total of 9 years on the new contract.
ESPN is giving us a level of coverage that no G5 comes close to and on platforms that have more viwership then networks that will be bidding for us.

I think anything near $6 million per team and we HAVE to sign that deal. If they would help us expand and bring in additional pieces on top of that and I think it would be a good sign that ESPN looks at us as being a part of their future...whereas the MWC right now isnt.
