RE: 1 out of the running:Uconn insider-Uconn "not a fit" for Big 12

The "UMass is UConn's dream" comment is his weakest troll effort yet. It is a beyond pathetic comment.
The good news is that pretty soon BE4evah can get back to watching Providence get their doors blown off on FS1 along with the other 14 viewers that are tuned in.
Yeah, they left off Northern Illinois and East Carolina as possible Big 12 targets. N. Illinois have the tv ratings, and the tv market. East Carolina keeps winning over P5 schools, fan support, and have the ratings.

McMurphy: “The Big 12 is not expanding west.”
If McMurphy is saying this, it has a leg to stand on. I'm still not sure the Big 12 isn't in a big time crisis at this point. I don't know that adding two or more "random" schools is going to save them long-term. What I do know is that the Big 12 is not in a position to poach from another P5 conference. Memphis, Cincy, UCF, USF, Tulane, ECU all have to look like fairly viable candidates. Houston if it weren't in Texas but say Louisiana or Arkansas would probably look pretty decent to them as well, but I can't see them going to 5 Texas schools. One of their biggest problems is not only being the smallest and least united P5 conference, but rather having a very small population base outside of Texas. Getting into some combination of Louisiana, Tennessee, Ohio, Florida or North Carolina would help with that especially among that last 3.
You got to wonder what Chicago market will do if Northern Illinois also on the list. The money making is not how many tickets you sell now. It is tv viewership.
I do so love how this fact gets overlooked so casually by fans but is Memphis' saving grace for B12 inclusion

That's a consideration. Realistically the Chicago market is Big Ten and Notre Dame dominated. DePaul if they were doing well would get some interest during basketball season. But putting the Big 12 close in like that might be interesting at least when Okie and Texas were coming to town for football or Kansas for basketball.
NIU is the closest D1 football playing public university to Chicago, adding a program that has had success that close to the Big 10 HQ (nw suburb Rosemont, IL) would be a nice shot at the Big 10.
Damn right it would be =)

Marshall was added to CUSA for their football... How did that work out? THe Herd was awful for almost a decade. Conferences have to be smart enough to not add a school because they have been good for 5-10 years at one sport.
If NIU brings a good recruiting ground and a TV market which they can deliver then you add them.
NIU definitely brings a market and a great football team. It would be a great trump card for the AAC in tv contract negotiations. The third highest market? Yes please.

A 14 member AAC with an eastern wing of: Uconn, Umass, Buffalo, Temple, Navy, ECU, maybe New Hampshire? if they can be convinced to join, and then a southern wing of ECU, Florida Atlantic, FIU, Georgia Southern, SMU, Houston, Rice looks awfully attractive.
If NIU gets a shot out of the MAC for the AAC even if it's a slightly diluted AAC, you take it and run. The MAC is showing some weakness lately with akron and kent st, the AAC has: more money, better bowls, better competition, and is a generally better viewed conference. No brainer.
