Did You Know?
Here is a list of players who are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and their schools/universities.

Notice that TU has more HOF players than the Razorbacks and Cowboys/Aggies. :)

Number of selected PFBHOF inductees:

OU = 4
TU = 3
OSU = 2
Arkansas =2
SMU = 5
Navy = 1

*Navy, TU, SMU are the only schools who have players in the PFBHOF from the AAC.

http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/colleges.aspx

BTW, there are three Big 12 schools that do not have anyone in the PFBHOF - Iowa St/KState/Texas Tech

BTW, since I advocate inviting Wichita State into the AAC at some future point (as a non FB member) - they are also included in the Pro FB and CFB Halls of Fame even though the Shockers no longer play the sport.

Pro FB Hall - 1 (Bill Parcels)
CFB HOF - 2

Thanks for posting that. I read up on him and you're probably right. Here is his wikipedia page.

BTW I think we have a version of that in Drew Pearson, the great WR who was "Mr Clutch" for the Dallas Cowboys. Even though he is on the Cowboy Ring of Honor, he isn't in the HOF - at least not yet. Maybe someday.

I think when your DL has its own wikipedia entry, you were a 4x Pro Bowler, 2x All Pro and your number is retired, you're probably deserving.

RE: Did You Know?
How many schools in the Big12 have ever won a National Championship in FB? Answer is 3 (OU, Texas and TCU)

Question: How many schools in the AAC have ever won a NC in FB? Answer is 2 (Navy and SMU)

So is there that much difference between the two leagues if you look at it that way?

Its all in the way you choose to look at it.

RE: Did You Know?
So did you know that former TU and Philadelphia Eagle QB Rick Arrington is the father of Jill Arrington - ESPN and Foxsports sideline reporter/interviewer. And he is also the grandfather of movie actresses Dakota and Elle Fanning?

Also did you know that the Peter Berg who played ex-TU and NYJets Defensive End Dennis Byrd in the movie "Rise and Walk" is also a leading movie director, and directed the hit "Lone Survivor" among others?

RE: Did You Know?
Off topic a bit.

But did you know that TU is currently tied for the #88 best national university in the nation (US News-top 100 universities)? TU has by far the highest academic rank of any school in the state of Oklahoma and the only Oklahoma school ranked in the top 100.

Oklahoma borders six other states. Of those states, only Texas and Missouri have universities ranked higher than TU. The other four states are Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Arkansas.

RE: Did You Know?
Did you know that TU was established in 1894? That was 13 years before Oklahoma became a state. It was also just five years after the first Oklahoma Land Run of 1889 and there were still land runs occurring in the state at the time TU was being established - the largest LR was the 1893 land rush opening up the Cherokee Strip.

BTW TU is the only AAC school that was established prior to their state enterring the union.

TU's first football game was played in 1895 when they defeated the Bacone Indians (no score was recorded). It was the only game TU played that year.

And speaking of first football games ever played in the state, OU's first game ever played was also in 1894, but OSU didn't begin playing football until 1901.

RIP Frank Gifford. Our own TU alum Becky Dixon worked at ABC with Mr Gifford on programs such as ABC's Wide World of Sports back in the late 1980's. Here is a little about that.

BTW, Frank's wife Kathy Lee Gifford, is a graduate of ORU.

BTW I think we have a version of that in Drew Pearson, the great WR who was "Mr Clutch" for the Dallas Cowboys. Even though he is on the Cowboy Ring of Honor, he isn't in the HOF - at least not yet. Maybe someday.

Another factoid about Drew Pearson is that he is the son-in-law of perhaps the greatest dribbler of the basketball who ever lived - Marques Haynes who played for the Harlem Globetrotters back in the 1940's and 50's. Marques could do things with a basketball that is still unrivaled. He just passed away recently and still maintained a home in Sand Springs (a Tulsa suburb) at the time of his passing.

Drew Pearson actually came to TU as a QB and converted to wide receiver while at TU. That was perhaps why he wasn't drafted higher after graduating from TU. Drew had numerous hit media shows in the Dallas area after his playing days.

Here is the All-Decade NFL team for the 1970's and Drew Pearson is the only 1st team offensive player on that team NOT to make the PFBHOF. There are several second team players on that team who are in the HOF however.

RE: Did You Know?
Did you know TU and UH competed in the first football game ever played in the Astrodome? September 11, 1965

Our conference brother and long time rival, the University of Houston and TU have a great history that goes back many decades. Back in the middle 60's, indoor stadiums were virtually non existent. But the city of Houston funded the building of the first multi-use indoor stadium in that city - the historic Astrodome. Many great events have taken place there over the years from Pro Football games to perhaps the greatest college basketball game ever played in the state of Texas, the famous Houston v UCLA game when the Cougars beat the UCLA Bruins coached by the legendary John Wooden.

Some folks don't know it or can't remember, but the first college game (actually the first football game) ever played in the Astrodome was between TU and the Cougars on national television (NBC). Astroturf hadn't been perfected yet and the field was basically played on dirt. Here is a little about that game and the Astrodome.

My bad. I left out the 1945 Oil Bowl played in Houston against the Georgia Bulldogs. So we've actually played three bowls in Houston. (amended post)

Also, we've played 2 bowls in the state of Florida where our conference brothers at UCF and USF reside.

Miami (Orange Bowl Stadium)
Orange Bowl 1944 v Georgia Tech

Jacksonville (Gator Bowl Stadium)
Gator Bowl 1952 v Florida
