2010.....49665
2011.....50012
2012.....47013
2013.....43985
2014.....44786
2015.....43274
2016.....44113
2017.....36727

So we see that from 2013-2016, attendance remained stable, as previously noted.

This is similar to the general trend of FBS average attendance since 2010, which slightly decreased.
2010.....45912
2011.....45498
2012.....44970
2013.....45192
2014.....44190
2015.....43496
2016.....43070
2017.....42108

...with some notable exceptions.
• ECU's 2017 season took a one year, 16.7% dive. If only someone would create a long post explaining why.
• ECU's 2010-11 jump in attendance of 19.8% (from 41,742) after the 7,000 seat stadium expansion.

Another statistic of note is 3 of the top 5 attended games at Dowdy–Ficklen Stadium occurred from 2014-16. Each in excess of the official 50,000 stadium capacity. It would be nice to have a 60,000 seat stadium to sell out once or twice a year.

If anyone has trouble understanding this info, try this link or this one.

Increasing capacity to 60k makes no economic sense for something that only happens a few times.

I disagree, I think it would be worth it as I think having a large stadium is key for getting big name programs to come to Greenville. That said, the current expansion is only going to add a thousand or so seats. I don't see 60K happening until we're back to selling out regularly.

Let's remember that ECU has no plans to do that. This thread was started a couple of years ago.
