It will be a great day.

And it will happen. Only a matter of time.

The folks that run the ACC will be the first to leave. I will laugh when it happens.

So let's be clear. You think that the two conferences that have up to now made the smartest and most profitable moves in realignment are all of a sudden going to raid the ACC to take its least desirable (in your view) properties.

Let's say the B1G takes UNC, Duke, Virginia and Georgia Tech. How does that help what remains of the ACC? How does it help FSU?

IF you have a network and no presence in a state.....then they are valuable.

UNC and UVA are valuable for those conference because they have a network (unlike the ACC) and other schools that deliver great value (unlike the ACC).

Pretty simple.

Honestly, If I am NC State....I look at Texas A&M and see how great a move for NC State to the SEC would be. Somebody will jump eventually. The ACC is just holding on for dear life and little more.

Personally, I think NC State would be wise to seek a home in the SEC for reasons only marginally related to money. So, if State and Va Tech bolt for the SEC following the departure of the other four, I guess in your mind that would be a red letter day for the Noles. I just don't see it that way. And I doubt many other ACC fans would be laughing with you.

There is no chance in Hell, save the absolute collapse of the ACC that NC State would accept a SEC invite.

1. NC State as a Land Grant STEM, without a robust liberal arts program, is not set up to compete against the curriculums in the SEC at Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, etc. There are not that many places to hide a dumb kid.

2. NC State faculty are notoriously anti-athletics and it goes back to the 1970's and trashed talked by Duke faculty in the 70's and 80's.

3. We would need $35 million more a year to compete and maintain our place which is roughly in the middle in all ACC sports. It would take $50 million more a year to elevate football to the level of real competition - not the South Carolina or Mizzou level, but the LSU/Georgia/Auburn level.

4. Most of NC State's faculty and administration have some sort of B10 tie and NC State is set up and run like a small B10 school, not a large SEC school. That matters. While the fan base is more SECish, the school is more B10ish.

5. UNC-Ch would not allow us to go to the SEC unless they moved to the B10, which they do not want to do and they would not allow us to move to the B10 without them.

6. NC State does not control it's own fate. It has the least self governance and personal control of any school in the P-5. We are slave to the UNC Board of Governors, who are 75% UNC-Ch folks.

Because UNC has been the subject of a lot of criticism lately. If UNC fans are ok with it on the main board, let me know and I'll put it back.

Agreed. Like State, they are more like a half-sized B10 school than an SEC school from a curriculum and faculty standpoint. Their rank and file fans are mostly southern, but not the University.

Toss athletics out and look at the culture and focus of the four universities in question and this is what you have - two small Big 10 style schools, VT and NC State (both needing an additional 10-15K students to get to B10 size), and two oversized Ivy League Schools (oversized in the sense that if you cut the bottom half out of the student population). I see nothing on the horizon that changes these trajectories.

It's only FSU fans and a few rogue Clemson fans, and if it weren't for their nonsense things would get boring. Besides nobody really pays much attention to either group.

ECU is 5-0 in the last 5 games over the acc. Also they almost double the stadium capacity of wake and duke. However they are not considered a power team lol.

East Carolina is a victim of location.
The stories of ECU and FSU parallel. At the time of FSU's rise they had little competition in the state of Florida. East Carolina's late rise (and I like ECU, my daughter went to school there) blossomed into an already crowded field and there will be no room at the P5 table for ECU.
