For this season. This wasn't the case last year. If the AAC wants to be the top dog they need to prove their superiority over a long period of time, not one season.
Yes, some folks are eager to declare one season to augur a permanent state of affairs. E.g., two years ago UCF fans declared the dawning of a new UCF Dynasty, a permanently top-tier program. They are now 0-7.
The AAC is having a banner year for sure, but no guarantees it will last.

Last year AAC was 10-31 ooc vs. FBS schools, barely ahead of the MAC and way behind CUSA and MWC. This year, they are over 50% and just behind the ACC. CUSA is 10-27, behind AAC and MAC. MWC is next to last at 6-26. That's the way it works for the G5, although the last 2 years have been more extreme than most. They are up and down.

Boise State and Air Force out of the MWC is not really down. They are normal for their schools.
Memphis had a good season last year. This year they are very good.
Houston have been known as a good team in football. Especially when they had runs at winning against schools like Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Texas A&M and Arkansas. Houston would make a good P5 school, but not in the Big 12 right now.
UCF and USF does have on paper of winning seasons that could be good enough.
