Back from the self imposed Internet outage. A little Maryland news.

Michigan DC D.J. Durkin ready to sign deal with Maryland. Will meet with MD officials on Monday. http://ajerseyguy.com

Per this report from Mark Blaudschun, Michigan defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin will travel to Maryland on Monday and is "ready to sign" with the Terps. Durkin has enjoyed a successful first year as Michigan's defensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh.

Maryland has spoken with Mark Richt per Jeff Ermann of 247. They "could host Richt for in-person discussions Tuesday or Wednesday". Commence Maryland total fan melt down in 3…2…1. http://maryland.247sports.com/Bolt/Maryl...y-41577197

Rutgers candidates per nj.com

Former Miami coach Al Golden, former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano and current Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck are considered the three favorite candidates among top Rutgers boosters, according to multiple people familiar with the situation

http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index....ching.html

Those seem like 3 good candidates. Golden and Schiano have the experience and knowledge for a P5 job. Fleck is an young, up and coming guy with a high ceiling.

I like Fleck and hope he does well (I wanted MD to interview him but not enough experience I guess). If things go well, he and RU could be scary (in a good way!)

Not really a fan of any of those guys. Would take Schiano, but not gonna get excited if that's the case. Guys going back for round 2 at a job usually doesn't work. We'll see I guess.

Maryland: Michigan defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin will be named head coach at Maryland, according to Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel. The 37-year-old Durkin has spent one year at Michigan after four at Florida. More coming on CoachingSearch.com.

We will see if this really happens

Here is the MD 247 article. http://maryland.247sports.com/Article/DJ...--41602804

RE: B1G Coaching searches
In other coaching news…

Indiana: Athletic director Fred Glass tells the Indianapolis Star he’s optimistic the school will get an extension done with Kevin Wilson.

So it looks like going bowling get Wilson an extension.

Rutgers: Rutgers: Former Miami head coach Al Golden and Ohio State co-defensive coordinator / safeties coach Chris Ash are among the top candidates for the Rutgers head coaching job, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy. The Cleveland Plain Dealer adds that Ohio State offensive coordinator / offensive line coach Ed Warinner is also a candidate.

I thought I had seen somewhere that Schiano was also an RU target.

Ed Warinner is being mentioned now for the Rutgers HC position. The Ohio State OC and OL coach knows how to run an offense but doesn't have any HC experience.

At least Rutgers has decided they will not hire from with in the University this time. That's a positive!

I like the little that I have heard about Maryland's coach. He sounds like he's got potential. Time will tell but I'd grade the hire as a solid B for now.

At first I was a little concerned but the more I've read/heard about him, the more I like the hire. I think most people grade this as an B/B- hire. The thing that is still of concern is the OC. Who does he hire. It appears that Mike Locksley is leaving (unconfirmed) and he is our major recruiting guy for the DC/MD/VA (DMV). A bunch of recruits were suppose to come to campus this weekend but that has been delayed. Add in that some recruits have said they are tied to Locksley's MD employment. Things could get ugly. Durkin needs to get people hired and get on the recruiting trail. Keep as many of the recruits as he can. Obviously he won't/can't get them all and this happens with every coaching change. Trying to stay positive. Overall, I'm excited and if Durkin can get a good OC…things around College Park could become really fun and fans can actually enjoy Terps football.

You didn't want Locksley long-term. That guy is poison, alumnus or not.

He has his issues no doubt about it. I believe many of the issues were from his time in NM. But they are a part of him. This has been his 2nd stint with MD. I'd have liked to keep him but that is up to new HC DJ Durkin to decide. Maryland reportedly offered him $1 million/year but he has declined. He wants to be a HC. So it seems like he will go elsewhere. This hasn't been confirmed but rumors have surfaced. He is a fantastic recruiter but you have to take the good stuff with the bad.

Yeah, sorry Rutgers people. I've been slacking a little. Did see some stuff earlier with many of those same names. Article as said the firm doing the search is doing pretty good about keeping everything quite.

RE: B1G Coaching searches
I didn't include Joe Moglia in the list, as I haven't heard from any source or news link whether RU contacted him or not. I know several writers/bloggers said he'd be a good choice but haven't seen any confirmation of contact.

And yes, they did reach out to Chip LOL... I'd say 0.001% chance for that happening but it helps that he's from the Northeast. Mullen almost struck a deal with Rutgers a couple years ago but RU got scared of the money he wanted... apparently this time Barchi is claiming that money won't be an issue anymore.

Mullen would be a coup. Really hope there's something there.
