"Europe" cannot stay as it is. It will either break apart or it will become an empire led by a strongman. With each crisis, more and more power of the central state is needed to quell the quasi-sovereign entities. Either way, it will likely start with widespread war between the schools of thought, unless the quasi-sovereign entities bend over and opt not to fight, but remember, many of these entities have about 1600 years of proud sovereign history to perserve. I don't see England, Spain, or France giving in and the only way Germany goes along is if they are in control (current status quo). No way Germany gives up their own sovereignty, but they'd gladly take Italy's or Greece's.

Funny how the power landscape in Europe is remarkably similar to what it was as far back as the 1870's.

Some comments

No doubt there is a certain amount of European guilt over the plight of the Middle East. In the last 200 years, Europe has certainly screwed the pooch when they took the Middle East as colonies. The boundaries of these countries today make no sense when we see what the actual cultural landscape is. Putting 3 groups that hate each other into one country - Iraq - was beyond stupid. WW2 was a direct result of the failures of the Peace Accords from WW1 - where Germany was made a scapegoat for the cause of the war when in reality the cause of the war should lie equally at the feet of Russia, France and Britain as well as Germany and Austria/Hungary. WW1 was actually a war about colonialism where the Europeans used the Middle East as pawns to grow empires at the expense of their fellow European nations.

Bottom line is that America has no part in this. We need to step back and let Europe handle this. And if the Europeans want us to take some of these refugees, tell them to fvck off and clean up the mess they made. It's been long overdue.

Depending on your POV, we'll see a blessing/curse to the future. IMHO, Christianity will get a shot in the arm due to the "Muslim invasion".

Muslims have invaded our office condo. I think that there is a Mosque in here now. They take up the entire parking lot at lunch for prayer. Now they've hired security to manage the traffic and parking. I'm not sure what we should do.

From what I've read, we've already taken over 10,000 refugees.
