So, the only conference which the ACC played more than 3 games against and had a losing record was... the Big East. The championship game was actually the rubber match, too!

I'm shocked the ACC went undefeated (6-0) against the American. Keep in mind that league has UConn, Memphis and Cincinnati, not to mention SMU, which is currently pretty good.

The six power conferences against each other, in aggregate: the first number is their win% against the other 5 conferences. In parentheses is the average number of P6 opponents the teams in each league played.

Big East....618 (5.5)
Big 12......612 (4.9)
ACC.........543 (4.7)
PAC.........485 (2.8)
Big Ten.....475 (4.4)
SEC..........299 (4.8)

Two numbers stood out to me. The SEC really stunk. Their record was 20-47.

The PAC was ordinary (16-17) but they played far fewer quality opponents than anyone else. Maybe if they had played more, we wouldn't have been as surprised at their poor showing in the tournament.

The Big East had both the best win% and the most P6 opponents played per team. Only DePaul (0-5) failed to win a P6 game. Six teams from the SEC share that distinction.

They also have Tulane and South Florida, which accounted for three of those six losses to the ACC. Also, UNC beat Temple, Cuse beat UConn and Ga Tech beat Houston in the NIT.
