Then Compher is worthless and needs to be out. I'm sick of spineless AD's getting pushed around by "big wig donors".

Coach Holland was not immune either. But he succeeded in spite of them thankfully.

One name who could very well be in play for ECU: NC State OC Matt Canada. Was at NIU with Doeren/Compher

We made fun of Ruff but he was a decent coach. This is a WTH move, he bled your colors.
This is the first firing in a while that I am SMH.

Army's head coach is not in danger. He has, at least, 2-3 more years at rebuilding.

Zero conference titles.
Zero divisional titles.

We lost to Temple...TWICE. We lost to UCONN.

We faded down the stretch EVERY year he was here... even with some great talent on the field.

Our defense has sucked something awful since Ruff took over. Just awful.

Good for you. I've been down this road before and it isn't always roses and titles.

Yeah I remember John Thompson. I was a student for Logan's last year, and then the Thompson years... I remember.

It's a gamble. But 8-5 was our ceiling.

This 100%. Clock management cost us MANY games, Cincy and UCf fans can attest. We would continue to be Okay - which I'm sure the rest of the conference would enjoy. Maybe we take a step back now or maybe we have another Skip Holtz string of beating legit top 25 teams and conference championships.

Sorry, the ACC wins were over those teams when they were wayyyyy down. His best win was against a Russell Wilson led NCSU in his first year with Skip Holtz recruits.

Why does ECU wait until the crazy coaching carousel begins to slow and people start getting off? Seems to me they lost a lot of valuable time and potential candidates waiting until now.

Ruff out at ECU
Firing a guy after a 5-7 year with a backup QB is ridiculous, bad clock management and all. I'm disgusted right now.

Our dc was retiring and ruff wanted to hire from within. Also two of our biggest donors wanted him out before the ink dried on his contract

That's kind of my big question. The timing is really weird. I will say for those blasting Compher, the guy has made one major hire since he's been here at that was Cliff Godwin in baseball and I think that was an outstanding hire. Hopefully he has another one up his sleeve.

RE: Ruff out at ECU
Heard from one of the boosters that this was in the works before last weekend's game, but that they were waiting to see how the Cincy game went.

And it's not completely unexpected IMO, for various reasons.

1. You can say that it wasn't his fault, but you have to remember that the pirates finished 4th last year, after being ranked in the top 20, with the best QB/WR combo in the conference. That WAS ultimately his fault due to bad weather planning in not making sure rain gear was packed for Temple, and poor clock management against UCF.

2. The powers that be were waiting for a reason to upgrade the coach. Other schools in the conference were making similar moves with the improved competition (UConn, Houston, SMU, UCF, and Tulsa being examples).

Can some Pirates let me know if your fanbase approved of this move. From outsider seemed harsh for 5-7 with backup QBs.
Would your fanbase allow your AD to hire a coordinator from NC State or UNC ?
