RE: The Basketball Season
If we play like we did tonight, we can beat any team in the league. So anything is possible. I am most excited about seeing Evan back being aggressive like he was at the beginning of the season. The Eagles had nothing to stop him.

RE: The Basketball Season
If the kids keep maturing and learning the rest of the season, it is very possible that we could win the BSC Tournament. Of course, we could very easily lose quickly due to youth and inexperience. But things are really rolling right now. We have beaten the best teams in the conference. So we know we are competitive. Is it possible that we finish the season with a winning record???

And, I thought we'd win 5-7 games this season!

RE: The Basketball Season
McKay deserves credit.

I was among the doubters with the McKay hiring. My doubts were not about his coaching skills but about his tenure at Liberty and the departure to UVA. Putting all that aside, he has done simply an outstanding coaching job this season. Myself and others here were resigned to a 5+/- win season. We were thinking road victories would be few if any. There has been a marked improvement and it begins with the changing of the acceptance of losing.

LU plays at High Point this evening. A win there will be very hard. LU has advanced beyond moral victories and close loses. Good teams do that. They don't settle for loses as building blocks. Tonight's game will tell us much more about the advancement of the men's basketball program.

Liberty WINS @HPU!!!! LU 80 HPU 76. Is it true LU has never won at HPU before?

Great job team! Keep up the excellent second half of the season!

I have to believe that we've won at High Point before, but our basketball ineptitude would not surprise me. We've never won at Longwood so I have to believe that we could have never won at High Point.

Wow! So impressed with how the team is playing! Loving every minute of this. And some other guys stepped up big today. That is a good sign. I'm calling it now. Liberty is going to pick up their first win ever at Longwood.

Really amazing. I was calling for Liberty to win 5-6 games this season. I'm excited about this year, but thinking 2-3 years down the road makes me a little giddy. If you've not seen a video of Brock Gardner who's coming next year, check out this. https://youtu.be/SjyN21mq2uc
This is from his JR year. He's a McDonald's all American.

We've never beaten Longwood in Farmville. We've won at High Point many times. I believe they've only been this good within the last few years, probably thanks to John Brown.

The YouTube video was impressive. Thanks for the post. I hope he has some speed. As a big kid, speed and big guards is the exception rather than the norm.

The Basketball Season
Was seeing we haven't had a win streak like this since 2004. I'd say we are long overdue. The last two games seem odd in that we have scored more but also allowed more.

RE: The Basketball Season
We are finding a groove and actually will be favored the next few games. Let that sink in.

Our having never won at Willett Hall is mor eof an anomaly than naythign else. They were good with Jerome Kersey back in the '80s when I was in school and they were in the Mason-Dixon Conference with us. Then we left them behind and primarily played them in Lynchburg once we moved to DI in the Late '80s. They only made the move up to Division I and the Big South a few seasons ago. So the streak is a bit misleading. That said, we should have beaten them many times and never seem to be able to pick up a W in that semi-glorified high school gym they call a home. I'd love to see us end that streak emphatically this weekend.

Isn't that 80% of the Big South?
Here's an idea... Let's finish the season 19-15 and storm the NCAA tourney again.

That's the one issue I have with FCS, it's so fragmented. Some schools have amazing stadiums some have corn fields with some field goals. Some schools have scholarships some don't some do FCOA most don't. The bare min in FCS is pretty low. At least at the FBS level everyone is pretty much on the same page. Sure some schools have smaller stadiums but they all give schollys all do FCOA and all have a stadium that can seat at least 19k or more. People wonder my FCS is almost invisible but I don't wonder it's pretty obvious why. I think they should make a D1-AAA cat that has all the basketball only schools, no FCOA for all sports, non-scholly and low scholly FB schools and the schools with sub standard stadiums. D1-AA should be schools like LU and JMU and whoever else fits that mold.

Longwood today! Let's beat them in Farmville for once! It hasn't been often during the last couple years that we've been the favorite for games so let's go out there and do what favorites do: win.

Boy that was closer than I wanted it to be. We have every opportunity to put the game away down the stretch, and even the refs seemed to be in our favor for a change, but it was a real struggle for us. We got lucky but I'll take it.

That was a good game. We finally beat them at their house. I wonder where we will be in the big south standings after this.

RE: The Basketball Season
On the down side, the teams above us won. On the upside, they beat the teams just behind us trying to keep us from getting a first round bye in the tournament. Next up is our old rivals from Radford in the Vines. A victory in this one all but eliminates them from overtaking us. Here's the actual standings that have one game separating the top 5 teams:

RE: The Basketball Season
We came down from our high against Radford. We still have plenty of room to grow. If we mature and start reaching our potential then we will be a pretty good team in the coming years.
