RE: Open Thread - Men's Hoops
It appears that we may have many ACC teams headed at least slightly towards the middle compared to last season, both with top teams being down a bit and a few teams from the bottom third showing improvement. I suspect BC may be the exception, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a 2-16 type record for the Eagles.

I think the top teams are the same. The middle and the bottom (except BC) has gotten stronger. That means the top will have more losses.

ND has not gotten stronger, it is much weaker than last year.

I agree that the top 5 or so teams will end up the same as last year, except potentially trade out Notre Dame for Miami. My thought was the quality as a whole at the top has possibly slipped from last season to this year. I think we may have less records at the top and bottom extremes in league play.

Another way of thinking of it... I'll be surprised if the top 2 teams finish 16-2 and 15-3 this year like they did last spring.

I think that is true, which in some ways makes conference play more exciting.

I'm not totally convinced yet that Wake has left the company of those schools at the bottom (especially since VT already has two conference wins)

VT is officially no longer a cellar dweller in ACC men's hoops!
(but probably still no threat to get a double-bye!)

congrats to VT for the win over UVa. The style of play that Buzz has implemented is difficult for UVa but VT was inordinately hot from the 3 point area. Not likely to happen again.

I know we won so that might seem hollow but I truly mean it. Our team is better for playing you and it was anybody's game. The thing is, I now have great expectations for your team. See y'all in the tourney!04-cheers

WF future is bright, if they can keep Danny Manning. 04-cheers

Agreed..trade Notre Dame for Miami.

As I stated in my post, the top will have more losses. I can see the champ having as many as 5 losses.

Wake's never had a problem keeping good coaches.

Odom turned down NC State and Prosser turned down both Pitt and Cincy (although, I'm not sure at how genuine Cincy's interest was)

Also, Manning grew up in Greensboro. While Manning was growing up, the Deacs played their ACC home games in Greensboro. Manning has mentioned several times that being the head coach of Wake is pretty much just him coming full circle in his life.

If he is successful, I don't think he leaves Wake unless Kansas (or potentially the NBA) comes calling.

Clemson starting to win some of the close ones. Cuse seemed like they hit every 3 point shot in 2nd half and overtime

Not a good team right now...FTs cost them the game. Congrats to Clemson. Orange will be lucky to be NIT.

RE: Open Thread - Men's Hoops
Brownell is actually a pretty good coach. He always gets the most out of his team and has them playing hard for 40 minutes every night. His problem is landing/identifying talent. Maybe the upgrades that Clemson is making to their basketball facilities will help change that.

Or the CBI. I would prefer that the team not go to any postseason tourney if they cant improve significantly. This was JB's last game ban. I doubt that the team improves much even with him on the sidelines.

RE: Open Thread - Men's Hoops
I've always thought CLemson should do a small ball offense, have 5 guys out there who can shoot 3's. If a program has an offense like this for a few seasons then it will start attracting good shooters who like jacking 3's and playing in a guard oriented offense.

Clemson always tired to win with physical defense and it has only taken us to the big dance a few times in 20 years.

Aren't you overlooking UVa who happens to be ranked higher than both right now? And some better news for UVa is they host both UNC and Miami at home this year. (By the way UVa dominated Notre Dame today).

IDK - they just haven't impressed me this year. UVA is certainly up there too. That game @ UVA will be a good barometer for the Canes.

Virginia probably has the best resume of any team in the ACC right now.

Aaaand they lose to VT.

Upsets happen in conference play. The 2013 ACC Champion Miami team lost to a terrible Wake team coached by Jeff Bzdelik.

Still think UVa's wins over WVU and Villanova are the best pair of wins anyone has in the ACC right now. If UVA is able to bounce back from their loss against VT, then no one will remember it in March.
