An AD who doesn't keep his own shortlist is worthless. Does our AD actually pay attention to sports? Only half-way kidding now.

Read the Bourne Dialogue Q&A regarding this situation...seriously, is it possible for someone to say so much without actually saying anything at all. Absolutely no substance and political speak. He and Alger are worthless.

I am pretty sure UVA didn't take 2 weeks to hire Mendenhall. There have to be ways around it. Just not sure if our AD can figure that out.

UVA knew that job was opening 6 weeks before the official firing/resignation too so not entirely apples to apples. But we probably have a list already since Withers has been interviewing. Also, some coaches could contact us. That's how UVA got Mendenhall

I was talking to someone in athletics at UVA tonight and asked him why UVA and Va Tech do not adhere to the same measures as JMU for athletic job postings. The response was enlightening. He said UVA and Va Tech are classified differently than JMU because we rely more on state funds for our budgets compared to UVA, Va Tech, and even William and Mary. These three state schools have a better blend of private money from donations and their endowments along with the use of state funds so they are granted more autonomy to police themselves. Meanwhile, the other state schools have more oversight from the state government. Simply put, we are punished because of our weak endowment.

Screw the state and this job posting crap. A freakin' state employee put us in this time critical situation. Just hire someone and deal with the consequences later.

Maybe we have a short list of candidates who we will be interviewing in the next few days and will make a decision in short order?

Bourne and Alger should have been prepared for this day. Withers was on the short list at ECU back in December. If they didn't put feelers out through Carr sports several weeks ago then something is wrong in the ivory tower.

FBS coordinator with a strong recruiting track record is the likely pool. Perhaps a FCS head coach if they are a long term proven winner yet still young enough to build a FBS program that JMU will eventually have.

Alger will ensure an applicant pool that is heavy with diversity. As I said 2 years ago, that is a good thing.

Larry Coker would bring a lot of notoriety. He did OK but not great at UTSA, but could probably tear it up at the FCS level.

Let's hire BSKB. He will get the head coach's parking spot and I can take his primo tailgating spot.
Brilliant.

Brilliant.

Wrong sport! I could coach kickers and punters. Coached 3 future 1st team all ODAC punters when I was a high school coach. One of them, Duane Harrison led the nation when he was at Bridgewater. If they give me a spot for that, you still can't have our spot!

Hopefully I don't get laughed at...but I am thinking perhaps way outside the box on some of these...

Ohio State RB Coach Tony Alford...amazing recruiter...great guy
Steve Sarkisian...hopes too high? Or too low?
Bill Lazor
John DeFilippo
Mike London
Houston OC Major Applewhite
NDSU OC Tim Polasek
NDSU DC Matt Entz

Isn't Lazor the guy that was run out of UVA and then the Dolphins?

Sarkisian needs a public makeover.

Lazor was definitely a scapegoat in Miami. I don't remember him being run out of UVA. But Chip Kelly's offense in Philly was good the year he was there. I thought about scratching him off my list before posting, but decided to roll with it.

As for Sarkisian...we'd never have a chance at him in a million years if it wasn't for his need of a public makeover.
