Merrick Garland - Should the GOP hold hearings for confirmation?

Based on the article, it seems like Garland would be similar to a Sandra Day O'Connor type of justice who would likely swing to either group. IDK, from what little I know of this guy I like what I see so far. Anyone else look into this guy yet? Find anything terrible that would make him a NFW?

If he sucks on the 2nd, he would likely suck on the others as well.

Kudos to Neil Cavuto. It's pretty sad when even a Fox 'news' host can bury this ridiculous GOP position so easily.

Pretty funny...he basically turns Hatch into a hypocritical blithering idiot.

It's definitely not the pick Obama probably wanted to make, but to get a snowball's chance in hell of confirmation hearings this was probably the best he could do.

I don't know enough about him to give a flat out yes or no. I imagine the loudest opposition may we come from the left until they know what his abortion stance is. I would tend to shy away from him based on his second amendment vote and his support for EPA regs. Those are the two most easily found issues that he has ruled on that will probably throw up red flags for conservatives, but I'm sure there are others. Personally I would have preferred someone from outside of the DC circuit.

I guess Cavuto's selective amnesia is kicking in again. Dems have laid out the gameplan for situations like this. You and Cavuto need to unrustle your jimmies, because the Repubs are following the playbook to the letter.

So the Democrats in the past did something you see as wrong (even though this exact issue has never really occurred before), so that makes it okay for Republicans now to also do something wrong?

That's how we should operate? Two wrongs make a right?

Oooooook.

Sorry, I repeated a thread already started about this nominee. But overall while he's not ideal wrt to a libertarian viewpoint, he's much better than Obama's earlier nominees in Kagan and Sotomayor.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/article...30016.html

"The conservative Barnett described Garland, a former classmate, as "probably the most reasonable nominee a Democratic president could make." The New York Times places Garland to the left of all living justices, save Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor, and also reports that a Garland confirmation "could tip the ideological balance to create the most liberal Supreme Court in 50 years.""

Well it would be like McConnell to do "fair play" with the Democrats when Harry Reid eliminates the filibuster, Obama and Clinton filibuster the very reasonable Alito who got approved with Democratic votes and when Biden said no appointee should be approved in a president's last year in office.

But maybe McConnell developed some common sense when Boehner got chased out of the speaker's job.

I saw one report today that suggested the Republicans might secretly tell Obama let's wait until November and if Hillary wins, then we'll vote him in. I guess they fear the alternative.

I guarantee you that is true. I have no doubt that Obama nominated him just to try and make the Republicans look bad.

I think Limbaugh had an excellent observation.

This guy is in his sixties. If Obama thought there was a chance in hell he would have nominated someone younger.
