RE: Big 5 basketball
If the Big Five wants to go back to it's heyday, they need to play some doubleheaders at the Palestra. That would revive the thrill of the games. Right now schools play home games and that kinda dilutes the feel of things. I think it could get real interesting now that Nova has won another National Championship. The other four schools will be gunning for them. It would be great if the group decided to somehow include Drexel. It could be the "Big 5" with six schools. That's probably asking a bit too much, but it's a nice thought.

It's called the City 6 and Drexel won't be involved in the Big 5. I say that as a grad student there.

That was before discovering new details of a small basketball only conference.

Years ago good basketball was appreciated by every basketball fan, presently fans are much more selective.

Putz.

Why all the hostility friend? Buy a Nova shirt and wear it around town...it will make you feel better.

I'm still sick but I'm back. Didn't try your idea. The only place a nova shirt belongs near me is on the toilet paper dispenser at home. Just thinking about that makes me feel better.

Anyway,

Go Muskateers.

Had no clue until I saw this post but Temple claims the most Big 5 titles since the Philadelphia city championship's inception in 1955:

Temple - 27
Villanova - 24 (won the past three in a row)
St. Joseph's - 20
Penn - 13 (longest streak to win a title 2001/02)
La Salle - 11

Congrats Owl Nation! 04-cheers

Many of those titles are shared (i.e. two teams each go 3-1), but yes Temple has the most outright and shared titles to date, but they better get rolling again, as Wright has Nova on a serious roll.

BTW, when Villanova won the NCAA title in '85, they went 2-2 in the Big 5. Even in a bad year, a city team can give the more talented team a game.
