For example, even if they still want to expand to 12, now they wouldn't have to consider the northeast teams to placate WVU. They could take both UCF and USF and still have a spot for BYU/Memphis/Houston or whoever. That way, they could assure every current team access to Florida recruiting on a regular basis. Florida's large population also gives them a better shot at a network than adding a small state would.

Or, they could just stay at 9 and have a balanced 8 game schedule leaving room for another quality OOS opponent for their better teams (and a lesser opponent for their weaker teams to help them with bowl eligibility).

Good luck selling that idea to Wake. Don't get me wrong. I understand your arguments and they make sense to all sides. However, I think that most Wake admins/fans would see it as a threat to their status as full and founding members of the ACC and a hit to the overall perception of Wake within the conference. My guess is their sentimental value to their status trumps any amount of money that the conference would reasonably be able to pay out to them.

That would be a sticky wicket for sure. My sense is that, of the three other ACC schools in North Carolina, the one their fans care about most is UNC. With Duke as their permanent crossover, they don't get to play the Heels much. They don't get Virginia much, either, and I'm sure they miss that as well. The question is, would getting both of those schools back on an annual home and home basis make up for the sentimental value?

I'm thinking that maybe the deal has to be sweetened by giving Wake more basketball games against UNC and Duke than they get now.

THIS. Even so, the perception of being relegated would be hard to overcome.

ND would never become a full member if WF were to go independent in football.

Its funny. There is practically zero...I mean zero, conference realignment talk on any ND board, at least the ones I frequent .

That has been the case since as long as I can recall.

The talk of "ND to the____ conference" is almost always found on boards other than Notre Dame ones.

You would think that there is no CR talk going on anywhere if you visited an ND board.

Wake Forest would never go for such a dumb*** idea. The school isn't run by morons.

You couldn't sell that idea to Duke, UVa, or GT.
