Just based on geography alone. But there's more to take issue with than just geography.

you do know Houston is closer to Atlanta than Boston, right?

And I'm pretty open about my desire for this to be a Southern conference. The only teams above the Mason-Dixon that move the needle are Notre Dame (a lot) and Pitt (a little).

Their market size gives them potential but pro sports & A&M will make it tough for them to tap into it enough to warrant a solo P5 invite.

Looking forward to our game in Houston in the fall. I hope you win all of your other games.

I think Texas, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame would have to be completely off the table....

IF that were to be the case, I think Houston would be a great addition

I say we stay where we are unless expansion involved one of the three mentioned teams or Penn St

List of teams that I would be cool with as full members:
ND, PSU, UMD, UTenn, UTex, OU, WVU
(I would also happily take Georgetown, UConn, and Villanova as non-football members)

Until that happens, I am good sitting where we are now, even if it means waiting for forever. I do, however, want schools like UC and Houston to end up somewhere good. My fingers are crossed for a Big XII invite.

I don't really want UMD because they don't bring much in my opinion. I like WVU but the academics are poor, similar to U of L (I attend U of L so don't jump me lol). UTenn would be awesome but I highly doubt anyone will leave the SEC. As far as the non-football I'm not really interested in going that route. I want all in or all out hopefully ND will join the party.

The ACC should take Army. Unlike, Benedict Arnold, we can definitely bring West Point.

The Miami metropolitan area anchors a region commonly referred to by local inhabitants as South Florida. The U.S. Office of Management and Budget designates the area as the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area, a Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) used for statistical purposes by the United States Census Bureau and other entities. The OMB defines the MSA as comprising Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties—Florida's three most populous counties.

With 6,012,331 inhabitants as of 2015, the Miami metropolitan area is the most populous in Florida and second largest in the Southeastern United States behind Greater Washington[6] and the eighth-most populous in the United States.

No. The guy with a basic understanding of economics is telling you that markets don't matter. Fans matter. If you don't believe me, look at the CUSA and the Big XII. If markets were the driving force, Rice would be more valuable than Texas and OU and KU would be worthless. Look at the AAC. It has Orlando, Dallas, Houston, NYC (arguably), Philly, New Orleans, and probably a bunch of other cities that I'm leaving out. But how much is their media contract worth? Peanuts. That's how much. If markets mattered, Penn State, Florida State, Auburn, Florida, and Alabama would be irrelevant properties, but the BIG EAST of 2005-2013 would be rolling in the money. That BIG EAST had Pittsburgh, NYC, Chicago, Milwaukee, Philly, DC, and probably a bunch of "markets" that I'm forgetting. Instead, it the conference was far and away the poorest power conference. If markets mattered, the Big Ten would be BLEEDING money. Instead, with the resurgence of Michigan, they're suddenly printing money. If markets mattered, BC, Vanderbilt, and Northwestern would be the crown jewels of their conferences, but that isn't the case (even though I really like Vandy and BC).

But hey, keep arguing about markets and slinging ad hominem attacks. Don't let logic and facts get in your way.

RE: Houston to the ACC?
If you think that markets matter in and of themselves, let me ask you these questions:
* Why do markets matter?
>If you answer is something along the lines of "cable companies can charge their end customers to cover the costs and big markets have a ton of customers."

Then let me follow up with:
*Why would the cable customers be willing to pay the rate hike?
>If you answer is something along the lines of "they would pay because they have to."

Then let me follow up with:
*Why do they have to?
>If you answer is something along the lines of "they have to because otherwise they couldn't get cable."

Then let me follow up with:
*If cable companies have that much power/slack in the system, then why don't they just up rates now, as is? What's stopping them?

It's my contention that cable companies have rates as high as they think they can have them without losing so many customers that a rate increase will bite into profitability (in the long run). If that's true, then they can only increase rates by offering end customers more value. That extra value comes in the form of showing programming that people want to see, and in the world of sports programming, people like to watch schools that they are fans of, or schools that they hate (and are thus defacto fans of the "other team"). That's the nut shell reason why I think that fan support matters and market size doesn't matter very much.

And FWIW, lest you think that I was taking a shot at Miami, I wasn't. Miami (the school) isn't a valuable TV commodity because of Miami (the city). It is (or at least was) valuable because of the []_[]. There was once a time when virtually every football fan in America was either a fan of Miami or the team that they were playing (regardless of who that team was). Miami was essentially Notre Dame. Everybody watched the 'Canes and everybody cared about their games. THAT is value. Being in a city of XX million isn't.

I think I would've lead with that (in bold). That's good stuff, and it's in ENGLISH!
