There is zero intention from the university to move up to D1. Personally I would love to see it, but I ask him every time we see eachother and the answer is always the same.

Southern Indiana was the same way til now

I Pm'd matt brown, I don't want to start rumors publicly, not in my dna. Would stretch OVC to 3-4 states in the north.

and you don't have your permissions turned on for me to respond!

I've been told that four DII schools that have been tied to the OVC are: Grand Valley (FB only), Southern Indiana, Lincoln Memorial and Minnesota State.

Nobody is pulling the trigger right now. They are exploring the possibility...even if they have the relevant stakeholders on campus ready to move up, I believe all four would need some other external things to happen before they can move up.

Why would GVSU be fb only and not MSU? MSU is further away and a perfect fit for the Summit. It would also give them enough fb members to have their own fb if they wanted. GVSU would put its other sports where? HL? I don't know why they'd take a D-II call up and they have 2 Mich. schools already. Lindenwood makes much more sense than the other 2 fb schools.

Minnesota State-Mankato was another name that was dropped not happy.

I think the schools not happy are from the CCAA, CIAA, GLIAC, GLVC, GNAC, GSC, Lone Star, NSIC, Peach Belt, PSAC and RMAC. Those are the conferences where a lot of schools are at that have gone FBS, looking at FBS or reports in talks with D1 conferences. There are also rumors as well.

As long as the MVFC exists, I doubt the Summit will sponsor football. Of course it would be 5-6 years out anyway, as Minnesota State would have to transition from Division II.

I don't know where GVSU would park their other sports - they honestly aren't that far from the conference footprint, especially since Morehead State isn't going anywhere.

Minnesota State to the Summit with football going to the OVC solves a lot of issues for both parties. There is lots of speculation that the NCHC will eventually go under the Summit banner and that would give the conference Minnesota State (currently in WCHA) Denver, Omaha, UND, and St Thomas as full time hockey playing members. It would also strengthen the already fantastic Summit league BB tournament in Sioux Falls. If, and it's a huge one, if Minnesota State could keep Wrestling they would also be positioned very well to be successful in DI due to their recruiting footprint and would likely join NDSU and SDSU in the Big XII.
