Is it time to abandon ship?
I really wanted this site to work to give an alternative to Flames Nation, but there doesn't appear to be enough interest. There's really only 3 of us that post regularly and I've found myself going days without looking at the site due to nothing going on. Should we continue on here?

RE: Is it time to abandon ship?
Yes. I would like to keep it going even if it's just three of us. During football season maybe it'll pick up a bit, with the occasional guest from other teams or conferences.

Right now is the slowest time of the year. I know I won't be going to Flames Nation so I'll be around. I don't even visit that website.

You guys needs to keep this going. I have departed due to the positions taken by the admins at LU and especially Jr., I still will follow the team. I just will not defend LU as I have in the past here and other on other forums.

As a sports fan, I will follow LU and read here and occasionally post. Keep it going.

RE: Is it time to abandon ship?
stating up front that I've been a long time member at libertyflamesnation.com / flamefans.com so please take this as constructive criticism.

one draw back here is that many of you don't seem to have much first hand, or at least recent involvement w/ LU or LU athletics. Either as students, fans, employees or alumni. At least it appears that way. Actually, it seems like some of you never set foot on campus.

I only infer that because a lot of the info posted or asked about on here is either old, factually incorrect or just misinformed. No, I'm not going to go back and go through every post. But if you contrast the discussions on the two boards, you'll see what I mean.

It does help that flamesnation is run by guys with media credentials, and many active members are either currently at LU, or attended there recently. It just makes the discussion more informative/credible.

that being said, no harm in having another LU discussion board. Just take it for what it is. Somewhat limited.

I'm a alum, stepped foot on campus gone to FB games and even have a brick with my name on it at the Library. Things that I post usually have links to said story and are new or super recent. So my stuff is very factual but of course I have opinions too. What I am is tired of is the horrible administration at LU. Seems like so many outdated ideas are being held onto and folks just won't let go. I know I won't get my way with how I think things should be ran but at the very least Jerry needs to stop making statements that make the news and stop getting involved with political parties. I really don't see how that helps LU's mission as a whole.

Also Flamesfans is not a good website to get news about what's going on outside of LU. Stuff posted on that site like the recent post on Memphis was discussed last week on this site. That also goes for most things involving realignment and general news on college sports. So while you have press creds that I am sure gives you crazy access to LU my interests are both LU and what's going on in the rest of college sports.

RE: Is it time to abandon ship?
Medic, I read flames nation, but to be transparent I find very little LU info that's not been released from the school. Before Chris Lang left he had developed some relationships within the athletic dept and he would get the inside scoop occasionally. Having media credentials doesn't get you any inside info. Barber runs a tight ship and I'm convinced almost nothing gets out that he doesn't want out.

Just for the record I'm an alum, a Flames club member, drive to Lynchburg twice a year for Homecoming and a baseball camp. My wife is an alumni and I'm vested in the school and their mission.

Don't be a stranger medic. I hope a few of those guys make their way over here.

PA, if you read the post here closer you would notice that most all are alums of LU. I've supported the athletic program and attended games since 1979 as a fan only. You may want to recant your blanket statement here about posters being misinformed.

You're not really helping your case here. I believe you're referring to Kim Graham. Who left in 2008. Liberty's athletic director is Jeff Barber.

Kudos to AD Graham for dropping D2 schools that had zero appeal and no benefit and aggressively pursuing FBS program. If playing FBS is the goal then play as many as possible. The fastest way to advance is to play better competition rather than developing local\regional FCS programs.

No need to continue the debate. No one has an issue with having two separate boards with two separate ideologies. Just found your confusion over our athletic director a tad ironic

I like Flames Nation and go there regularly. I think having a couple LU boards is great. The way I see it, Flames Fans is kind of an in house board. Here, we get, or use to get, fans from other schools and conferences occasionally. There is room for both and each has good qualities. Besides, the more the LU name and product get out, the better off we are.

Good catch. See I told you I have been a fan a long time.
