ACC Closing in on TV Network Deal with ESPN
From Charlotte News Observer:

"After six years of deliberation and discussion, the ACC is close to an updated television deal with ESPN that will include the long-awaited ACC cable channel as well as innovative “over-the-top” components, content delivered directly to viewers via the Internet, known as OTT."

the big thing will be how much beyond 2026-27 the deal is extended. Because ESPN isn't just going to do this w/o an extension.

Right... SO now an ACC Network is a bad idea becuase they may have to sign an extension... The ACC should just forget about a Network...whatever

Totally agree! If I'm making money on something, I want as long a contract as I can get. That works both ways. If ESPN extends the contract for one hundred years......
That means the ACC makes them (ESPN) money and the ACC teams feel the deal is right. As long as this has taken, seems like both parties are partnering with eyes wide open.

The thing is, yeah the ACC will make up money here for the time being. But if the extension takes it out to the mid 30's- that would mean that sure money wise they're close now- but when all the other P5 deals come up in the Mid-20's, the ACC will be behind the 8 ball then.

RE: ACC Closing in on TV Network Deal with ESPN
The SEC's deal with ESPN was extended to 2034 when they announced their network, so the ACC deal should be extended to around 2036.

Why is that terrible for the ACC but no big deal for the SEC?

To make the money they will need the cable channel. That is the detail that will be the most important part of an announcement.

Yes, this would result in an extension. They will need the return.

ACCs new grant of rights means if Notre Dame joins football conference before 2036, it has to be ACC

Will be interesting to see the details on this.

A nice deal will validate the expansion decisions of ND, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Louisville. A lot of value/markets in this conference across all sport offerings.

Per sbj twitter online OTT 24/7 channel will launch in August 2016 with traditional linear channel launching in 2019. Speculation is the delay is due to raycom

B12 just had a record distribution for itself.

PAC seems most in trouble here since their network fell flat and they couldn't pull of a Texas expansion.

That locks up the ACC for the foreseeable future.

That's big news. Makes it much tougher to poach ACC schools ...

The Big XII schools just became easier targets.
