RE: AP All-time top 100 teams
Woo-hoo! #99! Go Tribe!

And you're right - trying to create something objective by awarding points based on the subjective polls is meaningless. Let's say Alabama starts the season ranked #3. If they lose three times throughout the year (spread out), they probably drop to #23. They get all of the points. Meanwhile, a team like Arkansas State might go 12-0 and not get ranked until the last two weeks of the season, even if they end up ranked higher at #18. Alabama just got 12 points and Arkansas State got 2. That's idiotic. Pollsters are incredibly biased. And you better believe if it comes down to ranking UNC-CHeat #25 or Marshall #25, UNC-CHeat will get the nod from the majority of pollsters because of their name, even if they aren't the better team. Cheat would get points and Marshall wouldn't. Now try that same system with a lot of Michigan's and Notre Dame's borderline years. Michigan has won one national title since 1948. They were voted national champs in 1997 under Lloyd Carr. Until then, Princeton had won a national title more recently than they had. Still, we saw Michigan get the benefit of the doubt repeatedly and plummet after several losses. They still got points in those years.

Que the sarcasm, Maybe for the top 30. If you notice after 60 quite a few of those schools dont even play FBS anymore and does Santa Clara even have football?

You'll notice Iowa Pre-Flight. Now that's a school that accomplished a helluva lot in its 3 years of existence.

Not bad seeing as how we have only been FBS since 1997.

I think it would have been more fair to only use the final end of the season polls.

Actually Marshall was FBS (IA) from 1962 to 1981 and then dropped down to IAA in 1982 before moving back up in 1997. Of course, from '62-81 Marshall only had one winning season so they must have just ignored that disastrous 20 years in their data compilations.

ECU #88? If you listen to their fans you'd think they were one of the all-time greats.

This is extremely important and meaningful

Que the sarcasm, Maybe for the top 30. If you notice after 60 quite a few of those schools dont even play FBS anymore and does Santa Clara even have football?

To be fair, it will take Charlotte 25-30 years to rack up a list of more impressive wins than Pre-Flight had in its 3 year existence. Not a knock on Charlotte, but those were some tough schedules (understanding everyone was down talent wise due to the war).

This "ranking" annoys me on a lot of levels - "why" AP - voters have been rigging the system for years.

Imagine if we didn't have March Madness but voted the top 8 basketball teams in every year for a special playoff tournament. That's basically what we had/have. That 8 number might be pushing it.

CFN re-ranked them based upon final rankings only: http://collegefootballnews.com/2016/ap-c...-all-time.

I prefer it because my Tribe moves up to 87 (and because I think the final rankings are more accurate than the week one rankings, but whatevs...)

I can't see how that's too accurate of a top 100 poll. Kentucky and Tulane are way too high.

Back in the day the military schools dominated because their players were always in great shape. Now its standard for all players to be in great shape, and the military restrictions have limited the military academies competitiveness.
