They have gotten it together. I'm not saying it's over but it's looking better. Your friends must not be very well informed.

BASKETBALL:
How many teams would you want in the BSC?
I prefer 16 teams with a 15 game conference schedule. I like more teams and playing everyone once as opposed to fewer teams and playing everyone twice. I like the variety.

RE: New BSC Members
What about these folks joining?

Kennesaw St. - Already a FB member. Are they closer to the A Sun schools or BSC schools?
Lipscomb - I know they want the OVC, but wouldn’t it be easier to get to BSC schools?
Any number of MEAC schools - of which it seems Howard and NC A&T appear to be the crowd favorites.

RE: New BSC Members
I get all the talk about who is the next team to join the BSC or join or leave the Atlantic Sun. But isn't all this talk mostly babble. Sure if LU gets booted where the Olympic sports land is a concern. But as LU's FBS appeal grows so will the desirability increase. Hopefully emphasis on where LU lands it's other sports can become the main crux of emphasis rather than low level, entry level FCS programs.

RE: New BSC Members
True, Liberty wants to get better and increase its brand so as to eventually be invited to a higher level conference.
But you can’t ignore your current house while looking for a different one. For better or worse LU is in the BSC.
Part of making yourself look good to higher profile conferences is being the top team of your own confwrence. So we want the BSC to be as competitive, polished and solid as possible. That means we need good competition. I think it is important who the BSC brings in.
I know it’s all speculation, banter, and opinion. But until I am not in the BSC..... I am in the BSC. Therefore, I am invested in it’s success and direction.

I think a conference is a collection of schools that agree to collaborate athletically for advancement of the group. They are generally together because they want to be together or because they don't have better options. Under those assumptions, the conference schedule should be higher in number rather than lower because the schools should want to play each other since they agreed to join a conference with each other, right? Playing more often allows for home-home within a season and helps build rivalries. Could you imagine if Duke-UNC was only played once a season?

As for Liberty and the Big South, I think it would be better for the conference to have less conference games so they can get more non-conference wins and boost the league image. However, most in the conference will have trouble getting home games against meaningful schools so they rely on the Big South for home games.

Grand Canyon would be a no for me. They are a for profit University and I wouldn't want to be associated with that.

We are associated with them whether we to be or not due to the nature of our schools.

Frankly I am not particularly concerned about the Big South moving forward. It is what it is.

Agree 100%. Putting lots of energy in "what if" scenarios seems like placing to much emphasis on where LU has come from rather than where the school wants to go. To those who enjoy the contemplation it's a nice exercise. More emphasis should be on LU moving to a higher profile conference, as that is likely happen at some point in the future.

Maybe slightly but it would be magnified if we shared a conference

RE: New BSC Members
I am concerned about the BSC. The competition level indirectly relflects on Liberty’s programs, especially men’s basketball. Other than our last two seasons, there are only four other teams with a pulse, UNC Ashville, Winthrop, High Point, and Radford. And they aren’t even remotely world beaters, but they finish with winning records. We need strong competitive teams in the BSC to build up the LU program.

I think the Big South is holding Liberty back from reaching their full potential but Liberty shoots itself in the foot a lot. I wish LU was with more schools that would raise the performance of the rest of the conference and put effort into all sports instead of a couple but there are no greener pastures at the moment for LU.

- Agreed, the BSC does create a low ceiling for athletics, which is why I care about what the membership is doing. We need them to step up.
- Where is LU going at this time? Nowhere else. No other more competitive conference wants us. Why would they? We, along with the rest of the conference need to play bigger in order to be more respected.

It will be easier for a single school, LU, to advance than to have a conference elevate itself. Developing a strong out of conference schedule is a start. Hoping the BSC can succeed beyond it's current model is wishful thinking. Energy and effort will be better spent simply playing better out of conference teams while remaining in the BSC. That will gain more interest and traction rather than attempting to build up the conference.

FGCU is a prime example. Everyone knows who they are but no one knows the A-Sun.

FGCU sells the case for us staying in the Big South. A nice NCAA run trumps what happens in the regular season. It is easier for us to get tot he Dance from the Big South and then if we pull off an upset or two, that raises our profile significantly. This year's squad has that potential.

And isn't the only team to get a higher than 16h seed is Greg Marshall's 13 seed team several years ago. It seems like BSC teams most always are in the play in game as I remember UNCA I believe in two consecutive, recent years.

Still, that said, MBB and i'ts advancement, is likely tied to the FB success. Miami and Florida State elevated their MBB with inclusion into the ACC, due mostly from their FB success, not in anyway from their basketball status.
