RE: Charlotte announces $200,000,000 Capital Campaign (Football Expansion?)
(09-23-2016 03:39 PM)Artifice Wrote: Excellent, the Title IX warrior is satisfied. By his leave we are all now allowed to go on grousing about our fundamentally flawed AD, which he knows nothing about but insists on defending.
Our AD would rather promote volleyball over a revenue sport and insists on keeping athletic budgets roughly even.
I'm really tired of the Title IX argument and her crusade to be the top Title IX compliant university in the country (Go Charlotte Title IXers!) when it is predicated on her very specific interpretation of a three prong test which does not require her particular method of implementation, especially at the expense of having healthy revenue sports (which often pay for their non-revenue counterparts at other programs, which makes her approach self defeating).
The Title IX test per the USSC was this (3 options - any one of these three was sufficient):
•Provide athletic participation opportunities that are substantially proportionate to the undergraduate enrollment.
•Demonstrate a continual expansion of athletic opportunities for the underrepresented sex.
•Fully accommodate the interests and abilities of the underrepresented sex.
That does not require you to equally fund or promote non-revenue sports. Charlotte has an incredible track record of funding and promoting all non-revenue sports (except, oddly, baseball - charlotte has one of the lowest paid baseball coaches amongst comparable schools in the region).
Though she takes full credit for it now, getting football started at Charlotte took a grassroots effort that culminated in a student march across campus and prominent local businessman Mac Everett leading the effort to finally force her and our chancellor to pursue it. Meanwhile, this tennis facility got greenlit, funded and built with minimal/no hesitancy:
If the allocation of the capital campaign is as generous to athletics as is rumored, and she allocates most of it to non-revenue/women's sports, 49er fans are going to be extremely upset. A fair portion of those funds should be considered to expand/construct football facilities. I suspect that doing so would also please a lot of our conference mates.
in any business model, it makes no sense....
the richest man in the 'sip funded this.....right around the time our tennis program got put on probation......I'll never get it....

To a certain degree but the overall sentiment is 49er fans don't trust Judy Rose to return a solid ROI with any amount of money she has to play around with.

Don't say I didn't warn you early, in post #9.
Anytime MTPiKapp jumps in, you can expect the thread intellect to go down a rat hole. It's truly a waste of time. It takes him 2 hours to watch 60 minutes.

Wow, great thread. Good luck with your stadium expansion Niners, if I were in charge that's where I'd put the money.

In some ways I hope athletics isn't truly getting half or close to half what we raise, unless the people that donated are made aware of that before the fact.
Spending a hundred million on athletics isn't a good look to the general public.

There's no way athletics is getting a fifth of this money, much less half. Internet rumors that might have been started by folks from the campaign to generate athletic fans' giving efforts. Athletics we'll be lucky to get a tenth of this money.

Me thinks you all went a bit overboard for a non-revenue sport.

Is that a University-Only facility? ie; did you get outside funding in return for use?

It was funded by the university and its' donors. The tennis pros are ODU employees.

That's my understanding. The public can use it for a fee.
