Here's how I would modify your description of Bolton to describe myself, and my good friends, Drs. Ron and Rand Paul:

Views the United States as exceptional and is the reigning super power. Believes it is our responsibility as a nation to maintain a strong defense position in order to protect our citizens from aggression against their lives, liberty, and property. Negotiating with other nations is necessary and desirable. But obtaining any agreement, for the sake of having an agreement, is counterproductive. So is being unnecessarily flexible.

Believes that there is far less likelihood of a war occurring when the United States is strong and projects that strength. Have the strongest military in the world and never use it, because nobody dares pick a fight with us, and we don't go around picking on anyone else.

Free trade, non-intervention, and nuclear non-proliferation as the bases for our foreign policy. And never fight a war that you don't intend to win.

Bolton and Rudy were doing someone elses bidding when they supported Iraq. Now they are doing Trump's bidding. Trump tells them what to do and their job is to do it.
