Just heard this on the radio so I haven't had time to research it. Can someone explain to me if this is true and if true then why? Also has any other president ever asked for this before?

No issue with Donald's adult children having one granted they pass the clearance process just like everyone else. Would make dinner table discussions a whole lot more fun.

That was exactly what I was thinking. Well I'm not sure about the more fun but assuming that his children will have access to the White House living quarters, they could very easily stumble onto a conversation or document that is TS. Therefore, having the clearance eliminates potential problems.

But it should be understood that getting TS information and using it to short Greek bonds is discouraged.

I thought clearance like that was only for people whose jobs called for it. Will his sons be federal government employees? I thought they were taking over his business? Also what purpose would they need? Just to have it?

as long as their emails dont get hacked, I dont see a problem with it. I had one when I was in the Marines.

Using the UCMJ as the source for my post I'd say, "do they have the need to know?" Short and simple.

I'm sure our government in it's hugeness can find a loop hole where it can be possible. How about having four presidential advisors? LOL, well, maybe a little LOL.

If they pass clearance but they probably won't. Too many conflicts of interest.

Yep. If he plans to appoint them to a post, I'd say they do. At this point that doesn't seem to be the case (yet). Lots of posts to fill.

"Need to know" governs whether specific information should be shared with them, not whether they should hold the clearance. I had a TS for 20+ years. That didn't mean I got to see every piece of TS material. It meant only that TS information where I had a "need to know" could be shared with me.

I can see reasons why it would be prudent to have them cleared. There are any number of ways that they could be on hand when some critical information is inadvertently shared. That would still be a security violation if they did not have "need to know," but at least the severity would be mitigated by their holding of the clearance.

Looks like the son-in-law is trying to get clearance. He seems to be the guy really running the Trump train (and is probably the main reason they got rid of Christie since that's who put his father in jail).

Dems crying over this when they had a candidate for President with such a glowing record in terms of security. Funny stuff.

To be fair, Chris Christie does have that problem with the bridge thing as well.

I'm not crying over it - I think I like Ivanka and her husband more that her dad for sure but I reserve the right to change my opinion in 6-9 months. The two sons probably are too much like dad. I'm just trying to point out that the people bad-mouthing earlier posts about them not being right are off base too. Chances are this is the only Trump relative who will be trying to receive clearance.

I heard it on the radio as well, I was a bit suprised.

But USAToday is reporting that it didnt happen, so I dont know who to believe.

The Trump kids should not have security clearance unless they have an official government position that requires it and have given up their private business interests in taking on that government position.

Too many possibilities for the "insider security info" to be used or abused for private benefit (must remove all conflicts of interest real or perceived) and it might also put the Trump kids in additional danger for blackmail, kidnapping, etc.
